2 broken ass DSMs :)
So I got a surprise for you guys. Remember my forged/balanced engine with all kinds of bad ass parts just sitting? Yup. The engine with 2000 miles in my 1G will be getting me rolling with the holset and I'll reach 500whp with it, but I will be going through my built engine so I can run it to mid 600s and this engine can go in the galant. It just makes sense. Otherwise I'd be buying/building literally the same engine twice. Oh man I'm excited to give this engine another go...I may even do the EVO III trans for it, which also makes sense :) damn this is gonna get good

so this has been happening. Adding a kiggly girdle this time. Gonna try this eBay mani, doesn't look like it'll crack like most are known to do, I needed to space my next turbo away from block a bit, and I greatly like the sound of EWG out the main collector instead of the #1 runner. Also was able to see the cause of why my pride and joy engine only made it 70 miles. Piston to wall clearance! It is a .0025 right now, should be more, wish I caught this before!

Even though I got the Holset stuff back in the mail today, I got a little impatient...I need to get miles on this clutch fast. I threw a stock 14b setup on just to drive until the holset is ready

So Ive been having troubles running a dynatek ARC2 on the car. It'll start on 4 then right away lose cyl 1/4 and throw a code 044....after MUCH MUCH troubleshooting, I see its losing injector pulse on those 2, after trying ecu/coils/igniter ect ect I gave up on the CDI since it ran fine without it... well after switching to the 2150s and redoing the injector plugs, and finding some frayed wires and such, I tried it again. Still same thing. I called Dynatek and sounds like their harness is the culprit, since it has a tach adapter on it that fools the ecu into thinking theres no CDI box inline of the primary ignition signal and its firing like normal, so Im sending it in, at which point Ill be able to run the CDI/COP setup. yeah boi

Update time...
Got everything back from the coaters

Got a pump gas tune all sorted out and started adding E85

Car was way too loud so added a resonator that mellowed it out a lot.

Im working my ass off because Ill be running at IFO in woodburn. Got 450 miles on the clutch so pretty much there. Still lots of little things, I need to see why its boost creeping to 29 psi which will be next to impossible on a pump gas tune, build a better BLT that can hold some good PSI, raise the car slightly, trying to get it aligned but that may come later. Today is fixing spark blowout

Did some engine bay tidying... went to BR7ES plugs, cleaned up wires, wire cover, timing cover, cut the slant on the exhaust better, I still need to do the overflow container, but almost there.

The plugs were an absolute success! pulls smooth all the way to redline on 30 psi now, hopefully I have some more room to breathe and up the boost with more E85

The busy ass week to prepare for IFO woodburn continued... work full day then 4+ hrs a night on the car.... installed Jeff Bush T case brace

Drained the tank, put in E85, heres what it came up to with the gas at the bottom of the tank.
EF9B2DF3-5FDF-4C3A-AB7C-56E113674F3B_zpszus3i6c5.jpg

Also did heavy shockproof in the rear end, fixed a TPS wire issue, got an alignment for 0 camber, did a few street pulls on the E70 mix... I was busy all the way until loading on the trailer and still wasnt perfect, but I was ready to play
270A9381-94E2-4AEA-B7D4-4D53A9C88D69_zpsa5ajmwmu.jpg

Got there, got teched, thought it was a strict street car class and I'd stand a chance at heads up racing with everyone....but no not so much... There were lots of overlooked cars that were out of the rules a bit but eh whatever. So first pass, off the trailer, cracked an 11! Pretty stoked there.
Left lane
5BB4E71C-7B29-4BA4-BE45-C4929D10B0DF_zpsgyvewwyf.jpg
This show was packed and it was kind of a cluster F*** getting back to the pits. I noticed the clutch pedal lost freeplay so I adjusted it, with a cresent wrench, that SUCKED....
2nd pass, pulled out shift cable due to bracket mounting bolts being loose, had no 2nd or 4th, ran a 13, fixed it, first elimination, ran another 11!

But unfortunately... My battery light was on, top of 3rd the alternator gave up. I couldnt run with the fuel pump at 11.8v... had to bail out and watch rest of the day. This probably wouldve been my best pass of the day since it was a 1.77 60ft but going lean through 4th kinda killed the top end and dropped a couple mph. Overall it was a success tho! I was running 28 psi, my main goal was to get kicked out for roll bar index, I know I couldve with turning everything up, I couldve launched harder, and Ill feel comfortable trapping 129 or so on this stock bottom end, I got it off the trailer drove to the shop on battery power and got it back up and running next day and Im ready for the next event! Thanks for reading

Good Job mate, i think its interesting seeing some budget pieces on your build performing as well as other peoples not so budget friendly manifold. So are you running a holset now? How did that manifold due clearance wise? Boost response no crazy spikes with the waste gate coming of one runner?

Thanks! Yes holset H1E with upgraded thrust/rebuild kit, 60 X 87mm billet 7 blade. The mani Im running is great so far, the turbo clocks the comp side out, no water pipe denting, and its a little farther out, this 12cm clears block, but I tried a 14cm just to see and that would need a clearancing. The cast 1 runner mani was the last one I was running with the GTX hybrid, I went to the recent tubular one for this holset cause it brings the turbo farther out, and main collector WGA sounds a lot better venting out, but the 1 runner on my last setup did hold like 10 psi solid so wasnt too creep prone at all

Hmm interesting. ALso looks like you are running your twin scroll exhaust side on a non divided manifold im curious to see some logs on the spool up GET ER PUT TOGETHER :D I may have to send you some pm's on the WOT tuning as well LOL

It is together?? full Spool is 4800 RPM in 3rd. Heres my last pass of the day, since the 2nd was a throwout pass, and the 1st my laptop went flying back and unplugged

How did i miss that part LOL , so what is next for the car my 50 trim maxed out at 11.5 in the quarter mile. Im not sure what i can do to hit my goal of 10.9 and retire from DSM's but upgrade my turbo hmmm ill send you a pm about your set up.

So been running the car at the local track, working bugs out and shaving times down. First off I was seeing boost creep, and couldn't run more than 29 psi...after a BLT, it was found to be the EWG, leaking from boost lie out the dump tube, so went to a V band style, got the flange welded on

Got a good strong spring setup
00EC11D1-A3F6-4BCD-B0E7-90A0EDF71AC8_zpsz3zgyn8c.jpg

Then I ran into a dumb little issue...
63155EE0-126D-4D58-AEB0-78C9F5924827_zpsfoe2k2c3.jpg
the oil cooler bolt worked loose, sprayed oil all down the track, I didn't have a clue until my oil light came on at the return road...turned it off fast, fixed it with a bunch of red Loctite, a new Oring, and a bracket to hold the cooler and take some weight off it. What was pretty much 2 races after... IT DID IT AGAIN!!!! Right at the launch, spun in its own oil, luckily I pulled over quickly and didn't piss too many track officials off...

A08C1D51-EEF3-4668-B789-55D73F05167D_zpsbmfjwuyb.jpg

Not only that but there were a few things that were routinely loose on this thing...the alternator pivot bolt, top two bellhousing bolts, axle carrier bearing bolts, they've all been getting Loctite, lock washers, whatever I can do....
56A1047E-6E5B-49DE-B6EE-2A5C9F175278_zpsvx8s3hj2.jpg

So I got my launches down pretty good... using antilag and modulating clutch...

best trap to date is 126, ive been dealing with spark blowout and cant run higher than 30 psi until dynatek fixes their cdi box.
on the horizon is a full Evo III gearset trans, bought it with a broken shift fork, finally going through it.

Wow, Man. You can tell you put a lot of time into this. What an amazing Ride. :thumb:

So... This is the part of the build thread that we hate to do... but I'm saying farewell to this car. Its been with me for around 10 years, and I put over 50k miles on it, but I missed out on a lot of racing this year due to little bugs and issues, and I need to start fresh. This car is pretty uncomfortable to drive, It developed a symptom of having dim dash lights, and a growingly lean condition. It started at "eh thats a little lean, I should add fuel." It would correct then next pull need more, and more. Got to the point where 100% duty cycle on 2150s, and 14:1 AFR. It wasnt obvious things like fuel flow/pressure, it came down to a wiring harness issue that kept me busy for over a month. On top of that, things on the engine were always getting loose, and the trans had to come out due to 2nd gear synchros being done. I have a GVR4 that needs love, so rather than "plan A" which was this 11 sec dsm and a 12 sec galant, Im just going all in on the GVR4 for the hot 11sec street car, and a Foxbody for the nasty weekend special car. Yes it will be 4G63 powered, but both these cars need a lot of parts. So even though I hate when people part these cars out, the fact that I am using EVERYTHING, it eases any bad feelings or guilt.
GVR4 gets-engine, trans, clutch/fw, front axles, 4 bolt rear, 5 lug knuckles, 5 lug rear arms with toe elim kit, VRSF fmic, gauges, ect
fox gets- engine harness, ecu, 2150s, fuel pump/-6 tank to rail
So heres where we're at:

Pulled struts, knuckles/brakes/arms (for 5-lug swap)
3F2EE2EB-38D4-49AB-8069-9EF25B84CBFE_zps2sfdevz3.jpg

All thats left is the engine harness for the fox.

Plan is to freshen up the trans, put balance shafts in the engine, and run the exact same combo in the galant. Should go nice and quick since its already broken in and runs. So thanks everyone for reading, sorry this journey has to come to an end, but this cars sacrifice will definitely go to a good cause. We're getting a super nasty GVR4, and an even nastier foxbody in the future. Be looking!
