As some may know, my previous engine exploded and caught on fire. So since I have gotten a new and better paying job I am looking into short block and long block options. I've gone thru several of the supporting vendors on here looking through their offerings, but I keep finding myself gravitating towards built4g63.com. I'm looking to build around 400HP with a bastard 20G that I have, so I would like my internals and such to reflect that. I know stock internals can handle 400HP but I would rather start with a forged zero mile engine so that I can hopefully get a nice long life out of it. (100,000 miles or more would be nice!)
So what do you guys all suggest? Since my engine pitched two rods through the block, building an engine myself isn't really that much cheaper than buying a shortblock.

My budget is probably about 5 or 6 grand, and that has to include a performance flywheel and clutch and some other odds and ends.

From what I heard, the "built" line of websites is closer to a parts store than a builder and they sub out the machine work.

You will want to confirm that with them.

Honestly, I have never heard much about them, On the forum, or in real life.

Joe from Redjack Racing can build a solid motor.

If you have a local machine shop you deal with, I'm sure they access to what's called a "core yard". I know mine does. They can source 4g63 blocks for 150-300 bucks. Maybe they even include a crank at that price, I'm not sure.

Then you need your pistons and rods, I got k1 rods for ~$330, wiseco hd pistons for $440 bnib off ebay, kiggly girdle for $100, arp mains for $65, oem oil pump w/ straight gears ~350, acl main/bearings ~$100, seals/gaskets/belts ~$300

Machine work on the block (with the above mentioned parts, bore/hone cylinders, align-hone mains, etc) ~$700

There's a shortblock, to your specifcations, for $2600.

Then I found a brand new in box from mitsu 1g head for $450 shipped, added cams for 350, new topline 3g lifters and rockers, so let's say I have 1k into the head.

There's longblock for 3600. The rest of the stuff is accessories now, crank pulley, accessory belts, alt, etc. Plus its fun to be involved in building your motor so you know what you did. That's my 2c.

We have an amazing machine shop here locally. I can have a short or long block built there (providing them with most of the parts) for much less than you can buy an assembled short or long block from one of the vendors. With that being said, I've never personally bought a built motor from any vender. I've had 3x 4G63 built at the local machine shop though and all are still running strong. I suggest you ask around your local area and see if there is one machine shop that gets really good reviews over all the rest. Stop and talk to them about the motor you're wanting to build and see what they say. It may end up you may not have one near you that has ever even built a 4G63 before. Who knows.

Contact bogussvo on here. He's about the only machinist I would trust to do things right. Let him know what you want, he'll give you a price for a rebuilt short block to your specifications.
