testing resistance on shift solenoids

how do i test resistance on shift solenoids i found some 93 N/A 1g solenoids and want to see if they are 3ohm or 12ohm what is the procedure to test if they will work for my 2g (12ohm needed) i have a digital multimeter

Perhaps I'm missing something but is there a reason you can find the connector on the solenoid and measure the resistance across the two pins?

If the solenoids are out of the valve body it would seem even easier.
