Big Pandora's box here.

The existing key that came with my 94 laser would hardly turn the ignition cylinder or the door cylinders. Instead of going with a locksmith, I decided to replace all of the cylinders with ones from a parts car.

I am glad that I did. The ignition replacement went well. However, when I went to replace the passenger door lock things got really weird.

First of all, the fuse was blow for the power door locks. I replaced the fuse.
I checked in the door and noticed that someone had disconnected the rod to the passenger door cylinder. I reconnected it to the new cylinder and now when I lock the door by pressing the switch by hand, it automatically unlocks both doors.

What could this be?

Thanks

Wiring to the switch i am guessing. Pull the panel from the armrest area and inspect it. Switch is in backwards maybe. Not 100% about 1gs.
It is strange. The door insides are completely exposed at this point. I believe that there is a door lock control module somewhere. I can swap that out with one from my parts car. If that is not the issue, I am tempted to temporarily mount the parts car door to see if that is the problem. I am a bit concerned about breaking plastic in there during troubleshooting...everything is old and brittle.

Yeah I would look at the wiring at the switch. Something may be getting power or grounded where it shouldn't. And there should be a door lock module up under the dash. Not exactly sure on the 1g but hey there is either a thread on here im sure or the ever so handy google to find it. Hopefully if you just look up a schematic for the door locks and make sure all is in rightful order the problem will be solved

I replaced the door module. There is actually a thread on this here detailing the location. So far the problem persists. I am guessing that the problem is more likely the door actuator. I like to leave things like this alone for a while to give me time to think and then come back to it.

My89 Starion does that. I thought itbwas normal. I thought it was a safety to keep your kid from locking themselves in

Are you attempting to lock the door with one or both doors open? Or are you sitting inside the car with the doors shut and attempting to lock the door.

I'll check for this, but of course now the locks have stopped doing this at either time....but I have seen that before.

When do you think that it should behave which way so I can be on the lookout?

The connector may have the pins swapped around. Sounds like the previous owner had an issue and may have manipulated a few things. Check out a ETM to see if all the correct wires are in their proper place.

Yea some of the wiring must definitely be backwards. I replaced lock cylinders in my Dad's 92 Laser, but did not have this problem. Things were pretty straightforward.
