So took my car to a shop because it was making a popping noise while turning. My driver side axel is busted. Anyway they said my carrier bearings along the drive shaft need replaced. And needs rebalanced. Any thoughts on this? I've never done those before. Also said I could use a new transfer case but that there was a recall on the transfer case?

i wish you lived closer i have a completely rebuilt drive shaft with new OEM mitsu carrier bearings, all new MOOG U-joint and the updated transfer case yolk. drive shaft is basically brand new. the carrier bearings cost me 100 a piece im only asking 200 for the whole shaft. i could separate the shaft to fit it in the box if you would be willing to cover shipping costs. let me know.

Check the CV joints if you are hearing a popping noise. Try to grab one and see if it is loose and wobbly, its what I would look at first since you say it happens when you turn it hard one way. Good luck!!!

Yeah the shop thinks it could be the passenger side axle, and I just replaced it 2 months ago. At least its under warranty. So they shop pulled out the axel, called auto zone and had them get a new one in. I went and swapped the axle for another new one. The shop is putting it in now so we'll see if that fixes the issue. The only axle they had was a reman. axle :/ But the one he pulled off the passenger side felt really sloppy. How would a brand new axle break that fast? and I barely drove the car and never drove it hard during that time.

G'day. Don't want to sound like a smartarse. Does your car have a 4wd drivetrain. There is a part in the FRONT AXLES that are called a CV joint, they 'pop' when turning if they are worn out.

There is also a bearing in the bracket that holds the front, in your case drivers side, axle. The driveshaft to the rear has nothing to do with it.

Australia.

I know the drive shaft has nothing to do with it. I just mentioned it because the shop said all the U- joints and carrier bearings needed replaced as well.

It's rare but on occasion you may get faulty parts when purchased as "new". More than likely the axle that failed was also a reman, as brand new axles are rather expensive. Glad you got that issue resolved.

Yay. good to hear it is fixed! :thumb:

Yeah, its ridding and handling better than ever! Now I can continue my turbo upgrade project :)
