I don't have any experience with tactrix yet, but all I can say for ecmlink is how amazingly simple it is. Makes ECU's like AEM rocket science.

There are many threads on ecmlink out there as well as tutorials.

There is always this debate between flashing and ECMlink... just a breakdown:

ECMlink:
  • More upfront money: need a eprom ECU or one that can be converted to eprom (money for the ecu plus money to have it converted), plus buying the hardware and program itself.
(Your 98 ECU CANNOT be converted, but it can be flashed)
  • WAY more support and way more people out there using it to help you out if you have issues. Probably a better option for people who want to plug something in and get their car to just work, but the program can also support crazy horsepower cars.

ECU flash / Evoscan / tactrix / CeddyMods
  • Less upfront money (especially since you already have a flashable ECU).
  • Much greater learning curve. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who doesn't want to take the time to figure something out.
  • Less support, but people can argue that you can get help over on the evo forums. Since, it is the same tuning process as EVO guys. Evo tune shops can tune the car if you want to go that route.
  • A few less features than ECMlink, but more than enough for the average dsm'er.

Both can handle larger injectors, tune fuel maps, timing maps, handle E85, launch control with antilag, NLTS (No lift to shift), control of boost limits and rev limits.

Both can do Speed density, or GM maf, but i believe ECMlink has you don't need a translator.

There's TONS of info about both programs on this site. Do a little searching and you'll see all the debates and info for both. It all comes down to what you want.

One thing that I know for ECUFlash / Evoscan that's a plus, is the periphery bits. Basically you can shut of CEL's for things that you removed from your "off road / track only car" that will let it pass state inspections. I am not sure ECMlink has this function.

If you're just getting started with our software, I recommend this video series put together by one of our customers. He's using an Evo X as an example, but the concepts apply to any vehicle you can tune with EcuFlash.

And the Ceddy site is here:

Shouldn't need a translator for speed density with ECUFlash / Evoscan either.. Just a map sensor. (The Omnipower 4 bar map sensor for example.)

Another advantage with ECUFlash / Evoscan is that it is open source so you have the huge evom community that will make updates, and patches that will help you out. Just takes more research on your part to get things going. It comes down to how willing you are to learn. Anything that is done in ECMLink can be done in ECUflash/EVOscan. I'm going with the EVO 8 ECU myself. It's like choosing Android over Apple IMO..
