I have a key that takes about 100 tries to turn any of the door locks. It is of course, more than likely the key since it does the same thing on all of the locks.

I was just wondering how hard it would be to replace all of the locks with parts from a donor car with locks/keys that have no issues at all.

This door panels and hatch panels are completely off on this car and donor car. I haven't removed the steering wheel cover yet to take a look though.

Is this a reasonably easy option in case the locks are bad and/or my local locksmith doesn't know what they are doing??

My personal opinion is to rebuild the cylinders in the hatch and your doors. It is a relatively simple process. Over time, a combination of material and corrosion occur within the cylinder that seem to fuse the "pins" in the cylinder. With patience, you can take the cylinder apart (keep all springs and sliders in order) and clean out the build-up. Once you clean all of the components, lubricate the components with dry graphite.

If you are using this car as a daily, buy some used cylinders with a key. Replace those with your current door cylinders. This way you can have a replacement set while you are rebuilding yours.

I am going to search for a writeup, but I am wondering what the difficulty level of replacing this stuff is on a 1g (especially an ignition switch which is something that I have never messed with)?

Wondering what the easiest or risk free (not dropping parts) is the easiest way?
 
The quick and less thorough rebuild is to spray them out with a fast drying solvent. Brake cleaner works in a pinch, blow out with air compressor, wait to dry and then blow in a tiny amount of powder mica. If there are electronics behind a cylinder (like the ignition) remove it before cleaning.

Powdered mica does wonders in a multitude of applications and is worth getting a small tube of. It is a dry lubricant so it lubricates but unlike grease or graphite it does not attract or hold dirt.
 
Most of the door cylinders are too corroded to clean without being disassembled. The internals seem almost fused. The OP is referring to the door locks.
 
The lock cylinders and ignition are not difficult to replace. If you're pretty handy you should be able to accomplish it without too much difficulty.
 
can you buy new lock cylinders with a key off any vendors? Im in an area that has no other DSM's
 
I have been thinking about this a bit more, and was just wondering if there is another way to do this. I have a 1g parts car where the key to the ignition turns just fine.

Is there an easier way to do this? Can't I just swap out one "part" from my parts car, disconnect some wires, and then replace it with another "part"?

I want to make this as simple as possible. I don't care if the result is as good as it could be. I want things to be as easy as possible.

This was such an easy job....swapping out another ignition cylinder for another using just part of that guide. Onto the locks.....hopefully they are not a pain.
 
Do you have any pointers on a 1g? I can't find a writeup.
