Ok, been searching and can't find a pic to help me out so..
I have a 4gcs stroker with 6 bolt head, with 2.0 aem adjustable cam gears. I need to know how to time it.

Would be great if someone could post pics. I got a lot into this motor and don't want it messed up thanks

To set timing you need to align the top dead center (TDC) mark on the crankshaft pulley with the marking on the bottom end cover.

Your cam gears should have marks on them, you need to align these marks so they are parallel to the ground and facing one another. This is the proper alignment of all your timing marks, at this point you can install your timing belt.

If your belt is already installed, turn the motor over by hand until you align the crank pulley mark at TDC and check the marks on your camshaft sprockets, you may need to turn the motor over several revolutions.

Hope this helps, also try watching a video on YouTube to gain a basic understanding.

I think he means how specifically the 2.0L cam gears need to be timed for a 2.4L block.

OP, advance both cam gears 1/2 a tooth. Or in laymans terms, align the marks so it makes a --, and then move the exhaust cam counter clockwise for half a tooth, and the intake counter-clockwise half a tooth. Then you'll be fine. BUT ONLY if you're using the 2.4L block.

A stroker is using a 100mm stroke crank in a 2.0L block. A G4CS/4G64 is not a stroker, it's a 2.4L.

Hope you have the 4G64 DOHC timing belt!

Too far. I've attached your picture where the new marks should be aligned. You want each one 1/2 a tooth advanced. in that picture above it's a full tooth advanced on each cam gear. Just line up the red marks in the picture.

About 3* on either side basically, the red lines in the picture are just a quick half-assed paint job I did, they should be on the 3* line of the adjustable cam gears. You can actually just advance both cam gears 3*, and just line up the marks that are already on the adjustables. I didn't know you had adjustable cam gears, or that would've made things easier.

Donniekak's suggestion is great as well, and would result in a much better setup.

The HKS belts are usually tight. I have the same type belt on my 4G63 and it is really snug. But upon reading other threads on timing belts and consulting with a couple of highly tech qualified DSM owners im told its to do with the carbon fiber weaving in it that makes is stouter.

That is quite true indeed. I know when I built my 2.4 I got a bit longer belt. I also had do change the auto tensioner pulley to compensate for the bit longer belt. but there are options that you can do just find the configuration that you like for your setup

Really? I didn't have to change anything on the pulley sides when I built my 4G64 DOHC. I used the DOHC 4G64 belt(1 tooth longer) and the OEM 4G63 timing assembly.

yea i just didnt kno if it being as tight as it is would make it break

Honestly if it was a Gates or OEM belt, I'd be worried about too much belt tension, but I really..really doubt you're going to break/snap an HKS Fine Tune Timing belt. I'd be worried about tension being too tight and the belt slipping off before I'd worry about it snapping.

Yeah for some reason when I used tried the belt from the 4G64 set up I had a lot of slack in it so I replaced the tensioner itself thinking it might have gone to poo but new one still was loose so just threw a bigger pulley on it and worked perfectly. Not sure what happened but ill have to look into it myself.

Hey there! Been a couple year since this thread has been posted. I'm currently going thru the"same" issue. I'm being very careful not to do anything wrong when doing the timing.

Had my headgasket fail a couple days ago, so i went and took head off, put the engine TDC but I can't find the timing mark on crank pulley.

Can anyone help me here please?
