Hey guys just purchased a 97 gst with an evo 3 16g running on 15psi and crushed 1g bov. Im happy with the cars performance but the exhaust sounds pretty crappy, its very loud with a flat shitty tone at high rpms. I cant really identity the exhaust it looks like some no name stuff and its got a test pipe with a stock dp. Most eclipses ive seen on youtube dont sound that great. Does anyone have any suggestions for a setup that will be loud and sound half decent ?

Im running a 16g, delete cat and hks high power all the way through. Loud inside the car but sounds nice when I see others driving my car.
Im still seeing where i can sound proof to get rid of the drone noise inside the car.

I would say the exhaust sounds just like my friends 1g. Fully built E85, hx40, just wicked. Especially if the interior is stripped completely. Tough sound. Does it get to where its almost obnoxious? Thats the only thing would get to me on a dd.
t

It gets old running a open downpipe (I'm old ha) most of the time I run it through the muffler and it's quiet till someone wants to get froggy and I open it up .

I run full 3 inch with no cat or resonators and just a magnaflow muffler. It is loud sounds good and there is not a lot of drone in the cabin. I drove a friends with the thermal exhaust, and I don't know if it was just his car or what but it had a shit ton of drone in the cabin while driving the car, and got very annoying. Another friend of mine runs open 4 inch down pipe and while driving the its pretty loud in the cabin but you have to think of where it ends though. So it depends on what you can handle and what sounds good and is in your budget for exhaust.

I just bought an 98 spyder. The guy says its a full Greddy exhaust. Sounds really good. not ricey at all. I was wondering if it truly is a full Greddy exhaust is it a good one to have? I think it's either a 3" or 2.5".

getting a lot of info from this thread so thanku, but seems like most of you run 3" exhaust... Im in Calif so i have to run a cat, but if I have 16G (evo3), and my IC pipes are 2.5" to a BFIC, do you think 2.5" exhaust pipes are sufficient? I plan on staying under 300hpwith small mods/fuel upgrades only

I too live in Cali and run a 3in catback exhaust. Eventually I will run a 3in turbo back exhaust and keep the exhaust I have now for smog every 2 years. For your goals I think 2.5 will be fine. If you keep your exhaust from turbo to cat then add a 3in catback you would be fine.
