So when I have the car running in park for whatever reason the doors locks themselves. Is there anyway to disable this feature so I don't get locked out my car all the time while working on it

The doors should "Unlock" themselves with the car running, not lock!
My doors would lock themselves because the connector from the door into the cars door rail "big plastic plug" was loose!

Mine locks by themselves. stock system. they lock automatically after 30 or so seconds you can unplug the lock box inside the panel on the drivers side back seat area. the big black box not the small one

But wouldn't this disable my ability to lock and unlock the doors with the switch?

I have a 92 laser that will lock the doors as soon as you turn the key on. Safety feature. Learned to roll the window down when working on the car. I also carry a spare key in my wallet.

I'd think there is nothing safe about doors auto locking, nothing like having to unlock them after an accident and cant!
If you live in a bad area, or care about your doors locking, you usually do it yourself.
Auto locking + keys in ignition = engineering epic failure!

I'm so glad If my keys are in the ignition and I go to lock the doors by button it doesn't allow it electrically, but you can lock them manually!

it will disable locking and unlocking with the remote or buttons. pulling the door handle will always unlock the door if theres an accident. they will still auto lock with or without the key. mine does it that way

I've had 5 2g DSMs now and the 4 that have had power locks will not lock if the key is fully in the ignition. Even if you manually lock the door from inside, they are supposed to immediately unlock to prevent you from locking them in. If your car doesn't do this, there's a wiring issue, not an engineering issue. I would bet there's an aftermarket alarm system or something like that, that has been wired in wrong.

Just keep the ignition key in place.

From the 2g Tech manual p. 4-18 (I believe this works when manually unlocking from inside also - see inhibit condition about key):

TIMER LOCK FUNCTION:
If none of the doors is opened in less than 30 seconds
after the doors have been unlocked by the keyless
entry system, the receiver will automatically output
a door lock signal to the ETACS-ECU to re-lock the
doors.
This function prevents accidental unlocking of the
doors that may be caused by an unintentional operation
of the transmitter.
Operation Inhibit Conditions
In the following cases, operation of the system is
inhibited.
* When a code different from the one stored in
the receiver is received 30 consecutive times
in a minute, operation of the system is inhibited
for 10 minutes.
* When the ignition key is in the ignition switch
(detected by the key reminder switch) d
* When any of the doors is not fully closed (door
switch: ON)

I forgot I actually do get a weird locking "event". If I unlock both doors via remote, and only open the passenger door, after 30 seconds the locks relock. My old ones never did this. Doesn't bother me as long as I don't drop my keys inside by accident. I think my issue is a bad door sensor. At night when opening only the passenger door, the under dash lights come on and go out quickly like the sensor thinks the door is still closed.
