This is my first time getting wheel spacers, I want a set of 4 for my 97 2g eclipse. Is there a specific set of spacers I should buy or a sort of universal type. Also I want them to be the hub centric kind. Finally what size should I get? I want it to be safe but I want my wheels to be just a tad wider than my body or a least even with it. Thanks for everyone's responses!

Put washers behind your wheel till you get the look you want. If it's bigger than 5mm you'll need hubcentric spacers with an inner bore the same as your wheel and it'll need to be 5x114.3. You'll need extended lugs for anything greater than 5mm. Your car will also likely handle and ride like shit depending on the height of you space them out too far.

There's a lot of information missing--what wheels are you running? what the width and offset? Are you on stock suspension or lowered? do you want your wheels to stick out and protrude passed the fender or under? with or without camber? Tire size?

But anyhow, as stated; there are a few different types of spacers. Slip ons and bolt ons.

I bought my car used with most mods already installed so I can't tell you everything, the rims are RS Limited S Type 17 inch. The tires are 215/55 R17. And the car is lowered. I really just want the car to have a stance, not crazy with cambered wheels. Because a body kit is installed and the car really just looks odd with the wheels tucked into the bumper. I'd like it to be about even with the fender or just a bit protruding, for that stance look. Also I want bolt on type, at least that's what alot of people say is better.
Thanks

First, figure out how thick of a spacer you want. As mentioned, take a set of washers and place them over the lug studs. Then, mock up the wheel and see where it sits. When you are happy with where the wheel is sitting, remove the stack of washers and measure the thickness. That's the thickness of spacer you need.

Once you've identified the thickness of the spacer, that will determine what type of spacers are ideal for you to use. There are 2 common types of spacers. Slip on, and bolt on.

If you are able to use a 5mm spacer or less, you could possibly use a slip on spacer with stock lug studs. Depending on wheel design and application, you may still need extended lugs though. For example, if you're using your car for road racing, it would be wise to use stronger lug studs. You'll always have to ensure the lug studs are extended to the proper safe length. For your 12x1.5mm studs, you should have ~6.5 turns before the lug nut is tight. Anything less, and you need an extended stud. If extended studs are required, you'll need to press out the old lug studs, and press in the new. It's not terribly complicated, but it's much more work than a bolt on spacer. See here for the least intrusive method: http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/ky...1g-with-abs-abs-trigger-wheel-removal.231325/

Any slip on spacers over 5mm will absolutely require extended lug studs. I wouldn't run any slip on spacer over 15mm.

If you need a spacer thicker than 15mm, I'd recommend a bolt on spacer. These are bolted to the hub, and then the wheel is bolted to the spacer. The downfall with most bolt on spacers, is they are rarely available under 20-25mm.

Regardless of the spacer used, you'll want it to be hubcentric, or use a hubcentric ring. On a 5mm spacer, the center hub should still protrude through the spacer enough that a hubcentric ring isn't required. On anything thicker, a hubcentric spacer or ring will be required. You need to measure the center bore of your wheel and make sure you select the properly sized hubcentric spacer or ring.

In short, there's no cookie cutter answer to your question. Just like everything else on a properly planned build, you'll need to do research and select the proper parts based on your setup and desired end result.

Thanks

GST with PSI's post nailed it.

If you don't have washers then use a ruler and a straight edge. measure how far in the face of the wheel/tire is from your fender.
