I have had many 18" wheels before, but I think my Volk RE30's are the only ones I have had that would clear these brakes.

So what is the offset of your Volks?

I never knew the brakes would be this big when I ordered them.
OMG Really? Evo brakes are already a lot bigger then stock DSM brakes, I'd imagine something designed to replace stock Evo brakes would be ginormous.

Volks are +40 18x8.5. The RE30 was designed to offer maximum brake clearance. I have owned many wheels before in the past and these are the only 18s that I've owned that would clear these brakes.

Grant, you just don't want anyone else sporting the same setup, that's why you wouldn't recommend it :p

Looks good, aside from that turquoise color. You planning on using them this season?

I just want to make it clear to people that just because you have 18s doesn't mean they will fit. I don't want to set anyone up for failure.

As for the color, my main criteria when I set out to find new brakes was to not be flashy. I didn't want any color caliper that stood out, that's why I'm so happy with the gunmetal. Turquoise isn't my favorite color, but I can live with it being the color of the letters and on the bell.

I'm quite positive you won't find me at a NASA event this year (big surprise), but I am more interested in going to an open track day at High Plains at least once this year. It comes down to money and if I'm willing to part with it. It was hard enough parting with my money to do the brake swap and I still need a seat I can sit in with a helmet on my head.

Funny enough, the NASA event at HPR might be cheaper, safer, and better than a non-NASA open track event at HPR. ;)

flash, are you planning on swapping the master cylinder? with OEM evo calipers on a GST, i can def. assure everyone that the OEM GST master cylinder just doesn't have enough for these calipers... much less your larger Project Mu's... im curious if anyone knows of a larger master cylinder that could clear this issue... peddle to the floor, and the brakes *almost* lock... about 1/2 way on the brake peddle to stop from 70 at red lights... :-( i love the brakes, i do, i just want a firmer, more assured response when i press the brake peddle. any info?

If you're looking to get a shorter pedal stroke given the same amount of pedal effort as the GST master cylinder, you could try an AWD master . . . it's bore is slightly larger.

GST - 15/16"
GSX - 1"
EVO - 1 1/16"

Not at this time. I believe the stock GST master cylinder will work fine for now. Maybe not ideal, but I will have to spend a day with it messing around with it.

Here's some info. There isn't much information on brake master cylinders on this site, so I'll throw this up.
The size of the master cylinders' piston has a direct result on brake fluid pressure. However, it may not work like you would think... higher line pressure will build up on a smaller master cylinder piston to react the force applied by the pedal. A smaller master cylinder will create more brake fluid pressure but will also increase brake pedal travel. The smaller diameter cylinder requires a longer stroke to move the volume of fluid necessary to move the caliper pistons during braking. Larger master cylinders will create less pressure but will require less travel.

great, maybe i have been driving around with air still in the lines, i'll try rebleeding, and see where i am when that's done... i'll post results here tomorrow some time.

Anyone know if you can bolt up an Evo master to a DSM? This would provide more fluid to get to the brakes meaning a stiffer pedal. Then it would come down to getting more pressure to the brakes because the larger piston size of the master. Then it would even everything out as if it was a stock setup, just with more stopping power.

Edit:

I don't know if anyone on here is an old school V8 head, but I remember talking to my uncle one day about camshafts. I remember him saying that for guys who put huge cams in their V8, they would also add something to raise the Vac pressure getting to the master cylinder (brake booster??). I know that DSM's have brake boosters. Is there anyway that we can modify them to give additional Vac pressure? Then we could swap on the Evo Master for more fluid flow and stiffer pedals, and then modify the booster aswell. Or maybe even just modify the booster. Am I crazy? Lol

So where can you buy the Galant JDM Knuckles also will the 2G knuckles work?

I was suppose to write the "how to" tech article months ago now, but I just got around to finishing up one. I decide to do a video as it was alot of talking instead of typing. Probably took the same amount of time to amke a video as it would have been typing, but w/e. This was more fun :p

Enjoy!

How about kicking down some part numbers for the JDM Galant Knuckles and where we can buy them..............

On another note, anyone Road Race this brake swap yet, or are you guys just looking for a matching front and rear set of Brembo's?

How do these compare to the full TCE set-up?

I know Dan had a set of Rotoras on his GSX, and the SRT-4 guys I was Road Racing/Hanging out with at Thunderhill yesterday all had Rotoras on their cars.

Grant, you Road Race those Project Mu's yet?

The Part numbers are MR369425 & MR369426

but I believe those are the same part numbers as the USD eclipse knuckles, or maybe they were just discontinued numbers by Mitsubishi? I forget which way it was, but really you just need someone from Asia to get them for you. No one that ANYONE is aware of have access to these in the states, the dealership can't import them for you.

Either make a friend, make a trip, or know someone who is selling their setup. There are people on these forums who can get them, just look around. I got them from the same person alot of people do, but incase he is tired of grabbing them for people, I won't refer people to him personally.

After I get my seat mounted I will be going! The pads on the PMU's now are a street/track. So I'll see how those do.
BTW, I don't think the Forge Motorsports brake duct kit will fit with my Project Mu brakes.

So uh hey.. Grant :aha:

How did they hold up on the track? You have any feedback after all this time and effort of getting the brakes? Any suggestions for people or modifications you made to get them to work the way you wanted?

I haven't even really ran my car yet. But they will hold up fine on the track. I did order a set of Goodridge brake lines to use with the calipers, because I felt they were better then the OEM rubber lines.
In terms of performance, this brake setup is way better then my old Rotora setup, you definitely feel it. Maybe the Rotora kit had pads that were meant to last 100,000 miles, but this setup feels rock solid.

Has anyone tried to install stock ABS sensors in the JDM knuckles instead of using the JDM ABS sensors?

you can't, the USDM sensor is too short and doesn't reach down through the knuckle far enough, and would throw a code as if it was reading nothing. You have to have the longer JDM version.

They won't fit under 98 Talon rims, no matter how many spacers - the front calipers hit. Have not tried Eclipse rims though.

The 3G "GSX STYLE" rims won't fit ether [brembo calipers contact the spokes]:( :toobad: [http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/3g-gsx-style-rims-staggered.373780/ link for reference what they look like post #17] I was hoping the front brembos would clear without spacers, looks like there is room if you have 1-2 inch spacers on the 3G "GSX STYLE" rims... but I don't want to run spacers oh well looks like I'm going to have to budget for some evo rims then project on hold LOL.
