This sound just started shortly after replacing my struts and springs. The assemblies were off my other car, so I know it's not them (kyb gr2s with 1.5" drop st springs). When I turn sharply to the right I hear a rhythmic crunching sound. I checked the ball joints, hubs, CV joints and tie rods when I had the struts off and they all looked good (except the outer tie rod boots were split). Oddly, I had the same problem on my other Tsi this winter, but it went away. Could salt or mud get lodged somewhere and cause this? I don't know what else to look for.

This may sound stupid but once before I didn't notice that I had bent my dust sheild behind the rotor and had rocks logged in there making an awful sound like how your describing.
