AFPR Junk or Good Buy?

^That's good to know. This regulator can be picked up for fairly cheap. Like $30-$40. May go this route if no one has any horror stories to share about it LOL
 
Fuel and tuning are the two most important things you dont cheap out on.

Go with a trusted brand.
 
If I couldn't afford to spend $150-170 on a used good/known brand name FPR, I wouldn't be modding my car.
Intercoolers, piping, exhausts, etc are pretty hard to mess up and I'd run knockoffs. Something with your fuel system? No way.
 
I can afford it. I just didn't think it was necessary to spend $200 on a regulator. Guess you gotta pay to play. Lol thanks for the input guys. I'll probably pick up the fuel lab kit here in a couple weeks
 
Any part from any brand name (or not) manufacturer can fail at any time.. look at the run of bad AFPRs from a certain known company, or companies. File it under "sh*t happens".

It's down to how much you trust the brand and feel comfortable running their product, and what their track record is. That is, how often do they produce crap, and how much are you willing to deal with it if they sold you a dud.

Somebody probably had to "take a chance" on FuelLab, Aeromotive, NGR.. and so on, for all sorts of parts. Best way to know how good a product is, is to take it apart and examine it for quality. Only then can you make a declaration on some unknown brand producing good stuff. Who came first-to-market for AFPRs, and why did people bother taking a chance on competitors if they were an unknown in that segment at the time of introduction.

This is just generally speaking; I am in no way condoning the purchase or non-purchase of this particular product.

It's not a FPR replacement, just keep that in mind... so it pre-adjusts your already existing regulator. That's probably why it's cheaper. They can blame fuel issues on your pre-existing piece haha

A FPR is just a diaphragm and a spring. An adjustable has a screw that allows you to adjust tension on the diaphragm. All in all if the diaphragm is of good quality its hard to mess it up. Ive had my aeromotive apart and I think its way overpriced for what you get(my ecig tanks have more machining than an a1000 and are 35$). Next if you don't pipe tape the screw it will for sure be a boost leak and mess with your fuel pressure (nothing worse than a vac/boost leak at your fpr).

But it's better to replace the stock 20 something year old regulator with a new one because the stock diaphragm will eventually fail, hence no sense in an add on to the stock regulator. AFPR's show up in the classifieds for 100-150$ usually with fittings and gauge. Extremepsi has a1000 replacement diaphragms for 21$.

With a brand new stock regulator that b&m style bolt on would work fine imo. Although I agree it makes sense to buy a nice afpr from a reputable company.
 
My Laser came with one, so I installed it on my Galant VR4. Big mistake...it cannot lower fuel pressure. All it does is raise it. I guess it is what they call a Honda Type regulator...useless for a Wally 255.

EDIT: It was another type that they sold which I found on the Laser.
