Hey all, I was just mulling over ideas of projects for the future. I'm disabled so I cant operate a standard manual gearbox (may want a sequential someday though with pushbuttons). So my GSX is an automatic of course. I was thinking of possibly building a GVR4 someday, but I was a bit hesitant to hack up a limited car like that. Maybe if I found a complete pile to fix i'd consider it.

Then my thoughts came to a Mirage. I think that'd be better, since they're more common, so Id feel more comfortable customizing it. I figure i'll put a stock longblock 2G engine into it. My only question is with the transmission. I know that Evo 3's didnt come in an auto, but will a 2G auto fit without a ton of mods? Are there any mounts that would already work? What about the shifter? I did a bit of reading and saw that RVR turbo autos would work, but I wasnt sure the differences between that and a 2g. I'd swap in the shifter and all so it works like OEM.

Let me know your thoughts/info/any helpful links. I would like to have a 4 door daily driver someday and that'd be fun.

you can not go wrong swapping a 4g63t into a mirage! i can not think of anybody with an auto in one, 93-95 bodystyle, lots of autos in the 89-92 body. there is really no reason an auto wouldnt work. It is a lot of work to awd swap one, but they are about 300 lbs lighter than a similarly equipped 1g. worth it in my opinion.

From what I have seen in the past the 2G auto trans will fit into the chassis with some modifications, mainly transmission side mount.

There was someone who did it not to long ago. I can't remember his name but it was on the Evo123.net site. Here was in the US and the car was recently painted blue if I remember correctly.

evo 3 upper tranny mount is the same as a 1g mount. Trying to find a 93-95 mirage sedan now days is next to impossible. you can find coupes all day long. Also if you want to go with all OEM evo 3 parts looks at spending a ton of cash. Back when I built my Evo 3 parts were dirt cheap my hood was 99.00 shipped oem alum. now they go for 500.00+ shipped

I'd be fine with a Mirage coupe, I think that'd be neat. I'd have to cut down the side skirts though probably right? If it's just the trans mount I bet I can find something. I'd also keep my eye out for an elantra, but it seems like the world has tried to purge itself of the hyundai plague as quickly as possible.

I dont really have a problem using 2g parts where I can, I know the intake is a bit nicer so i'd probably go that route, but basically i'd probably just get a 16g and the valve body modified and kinda make it into a tamer version of my car. My 2g will have an FP Green on e85 eventually.

if you want to go fast go with a coupe! i just weighed mine yesterday
2250 lbs (awd4g63t)
i have prelude seats (33 lbs each) full interior, full size battery, solid axle from toyota celica(much lighter than independent)big heavy fmic and exhaust
automatic will add a bit of weight not sure how much 50 lbs?
if you run independent auto id guess 2400 lbs. just imagine how quick that thing would take off

who needs side skirts? sounds like you are thinking evo front clip swAp, from my understanding the fenders need to be modified to fit on a coupe. too much work for this guy, and side skirts add weight, and make it look too good, less sleeper

1993-1995 mirage 1.8 body style is the same as evo123
