Alright so here are a couple things wrong with my DSM from previous people messing with it. Big thing is there is burning oil but usually only when I get on it so maybe something with the turbo? But also the routing for things are so weird. Pretty sure those bolts sticking out of the firewall were to the cruise control because I see a straight through cable. Other pics show how messed up the lines are. Also how there is no manifold stud and just RTV on the head. Wondering if the stud is snapped or something but It doesn't leak so thats that. Also the inside of the valve cover has no bolts in it and I see some circular metal shavings on top so wondering if there is stripped bolts or the head is stripped not sure. Water pump also seems pretty wet but I'm not sure if it's oil or what. Also I hear a belt squeal for a couple seconds on start up so I'm thinking loose belt or crank pulley. Many things you can see in the pictures. Also that thing on the left top of engine bay was unplugged and I don't know what that is. Also a Blue/white wire and another small wire is cut off of the alternator. Seems they ran the Boost controller from E on throttle body a T'd the boost controller off of that and ran the boost controller to the wastgate. That doesn't seem right to me. Also no line from valve cover breather to intake. Please help me solve this mess and make this thing nice again!

The thing at the top left looks like a sensor for a boost gauge. You could start by trying to get the vacuum lines all hooked up correctly , get some new valve cover bolts to replace the missing ones.

Yeah the little black thing is the boost solenoid for the boost gauge that was put it. I'm talking about the metal circle thing. It is plugged in in the picture but it was unplugged. Not sure what it is or where or what those lines go to that are plugged. Just figured out that the turbo is blown and the burning oil was only when hitting boost, I'll get that fixed here soon. Also my clutch is super light feeling so I'm going to properly bleed it and follow Jack's video on how to adjust the pedal. Ordering valve cover bolts too hopefully nothing is stripped LOL.

You have a lot of work ahead of you.

I am guessing an emissions delete was done half-a$$ed. The connector that is unconnected behind the the intake manifold on the firewall likely came from one of two solenoids that were there. The EGR solenoid and the purge control solenoid. The the link below:
http://members.shaw.ca/dsm.1000q/Engineprimer/2G/solenoids.htm

The cruise control delete is incomplete. The cruise cable box looks to have been modified to use the existing cable instead of swapping out for the non-cruise throttle cable.

I would look at purchasing some new turbo-to-manifold bolts with the correct conical washers. You have a mixture of OEM bolts and hardware store bolts non of which are using the correct washers.

The valve cover has a missing line to the intake on the passenger side.

Those shifter bushings look like they should be replaced.

Replace any of those missing timing covers!

The belts may just be cheap (judging by the shotty work that is visible). Replacement and proper tension would be a good place to start.

Those are just some of the issues I can see. I would also do the following ( in addition to what previous poster have already stated:

  • compression test (if all is good, then try the rest below)
  • BLT
  • complete timing job (water pump included)
  • change ALL fluids
  • New fuel filter
  • Fresh plugs with proper gap

Hope this helps

The motor was properly rebuilt with all oem parts and oem timing components but not sure about accessory belts LOL. New plugs and wires have been put in so everything internal is great. Ordering a bunch of stuff that is missing and or done weird. Just trying to figure out the big stuff so it at least will run and drive ok. That messed up bushing is a good excuse for me to get brass bushings:hellyeah: Thanks for all of the help guys I really appreciate it!:dsm::talon::laser:

Are you talking about this? That's the horn for the alarm.

With no bolts in the middle area of the valve cover, there is a good possibility that's why your burning oil. Pull the plug wires off and see if there is a puddle of oil in the spar plug wells.

Turned out to be blown turbo. Only burning oil on boost so bad seal or something rebuilding it next week.

yes that's LOL I didn't know what it was and why it was unplugged, the car has a crap aftermarket alarm in it right now but the remote barely works and the horn on the car doesn't work and it doesn't lock or unlock the doors so it's pointless
