If you have a 1g Eagle Talon Tsi AWD, Manual Trans, Grey Cloth Interior, No Factory Alarm, with a legible "DSM" sticker on the firewall, could you please post a really good pic of the sticker, as well as the following:

1. interior type/color you have (cloth/leather/etc)
2. what radio your car came with (tape w/ equalizer, tape+cd, etc)
3. factory alarm or not

Mine is faded / un-readable, but there is a guy on one of the dsm facebook groups that replicates them, and I'd like to get mine done, as correctly as possible.

Here's one of his examples:

Tennessee Blue Metallic (Torquise) would be a plus, as that is what mine is.

Thanks in advance for whoever helps out!

while i cant help because mine is faded as well, this interests me, do you know of another contact for this guy besides facebook??

No I don't, just facebook.

But I guess any 5 speed 92 eagle talon tsi awd would suffice, with grey cloth interior and radio with tape player/equalizer.

I know my paint code, just want to verify the rest of the lines of data.

I don't know if this will help. This is the sticker in my car.
92 talon tsi AWD
Pimpin red interior
Black cherry paint
Tape player with equalizer

Mine is legible....I will try to snap a pic of it and post it up for you. It's a '90 TSI AWD factory Red with grey interior but came without a stereo when I got it. I also have a '90 GSX that is a virgin car but was wrecked in 1999. It was factory Black with a dark grey interior and a stereo/equalizer unit in it. I am pretty sure it has a legible label too, would you like me to post it also even though its a Eclipse not a Talon?

I'd have to doubly verify just what it is you'd get out of it, but inputting your own VIN in CAPS will yield most of this information. Model Code + Classification, Color Trim, Option Code, and Interior Code should all be there; you know the engine and the transmission and obviously the VIN already.

I say "doubly" because I'm pretty sure I did that when I posted in this thread: Firewall VIN Plate Replacement.

Thanks so much 1990, that'd be great.

I have both, CAPS and ASA, my eagle talon vin doesn't seem to work in a mitsubishi program. The guy that makes the plates also tried, and Josh@JNZ tried too with no luck. But maybe it works on yours, here's my VIN: 4e3ct64u4ne010442

I will be home in about a hour and I will shoot a picture of both and post them up here for you. Sure hope it helps. Is there anything else you need, that GSX of mine is bone stock just wrecked. The Talon was stock but came from an "abused" home.....check this thread in about a hour and I should have them. :thumb:

Top is my Talon (sorry had the hood off for 6 months and it shows it) Red with light grey cloth interior
Bottom is my GSX, black with dark grey cloth interior and stereo with equalizer
Neither had a factory alarm

If it doesn't show up in your version of CAPS, it won't show up in mine, either. I didn't realize you had tried that already. ASA never took Eagle or Plymouth VINs, that's why I mentioned CAPS only.

I appreciate what it is your aiming to do but I have serious doubts you'll get everything for your car's tag. There are too many numbers that don't seem to have a rhyme or reason, or do and we can never determine them. That and between the two tags @1990TSIAWDTALON, the one @deathrattle321 provided for you and mine, there are at least three variations of the tag and the amount of information they have on them. Having said all that, here is the best breakdown of the information I can give you, based on my dawdling in this stuff and my own tag.

The 1G plate has:
MODEL - This is a combination of Model Code (D27A for AWD) and the Classification. The classification depends on year, transmission type (either automatic or manual), and emissions type (either federal or California). For the AWD, there is
  • MNGFL4M - manual transmission, federal emissions
  • MNGFL9M - manual transmission, California emissions
  • MRGFL4M - automatic transmission, federal emissions
  • MRGFL9M - automatic transmission, California emissions

ENGINE - 4G63. Per deathrattle321's picture, EXT should in the same line to the right. I've seen this before and always thought it was the same as the Color Trim. Apparently, that's not always correct. Worst comes to worst, no one would know the difference.
TRANS - W5M33 for AWD manual
COLOR TRIM - The color code for Tennessee Blue Metallic is T13 as far as I can tell. Further to the right on this line is the Interior Code; no idea if there is a list for these or not.
OPT - I don't think there is a list of these anywhere, either, and I don't know what it depends on, whether it takes into account the exterior color and interior, type of wheels, radio, etc., ... this may end up being a best guess.

Immediately underneath OPT there are two numeric codes in line:
Left - It may be completely coincidental, but these three digits match up with the Month Day portion of the MDH for my car. I have doubts this is what it is as my firewall tag has only three digits here and if the MDH happened to be in October through December, they would need another digit. Probable, not likely, in which case I don't have any explanation for it. For reference, the three numbers here on mine are 306. My MDH is 030617.
Right - No idea.

*Again, based on deathrattle321's pic, there's two more codes to the right of those an additional line of information after that. You're completely on your own there. LOL

Top right of the tag it has three numbers:
Top - Last six digits of the VIN
Lower Left - No idea.
Lower Right - No idea.

Then, bordering the bottom of the tag, there are two alphanumeric codes. One on the left - No idea.
One on the right - VIN

The best I can do to continue trying to help is provide you a list of hundreds of 1992 TSI AWD VINs that will be recognized in CAPS. The problem then is you still have no idea what the interior code references, specifically or what the option code means, not to mention any of the other miscellaneous numbers. The interior and option codes will at least appear in CAPS but if you look for what color interior it represents, for example, it won't specify it for you.

I've been doing some research since I picked up my DSM and the plate is blank.

I will reiterate and improve upon the previous post.

In the upper right there are three sets of digits.
  • Top = Last six of VIN
  • Lower left = Unknown
  • Lower right = Unknown

Model:
  • D21AM*JEL** = 1.8L SOHC
  • D22AM*HML** = 2.0L DOHC
  • D22AM*HFL** = 2.0L DOHC Turbo
  • D27AM*GFL** = 2.0L DOHC Turbo AWD
The first asterisk will be either N or R. N = M/T, R = A/T
The second asterisk will be either 4, 5, or 9 and it's related to emissions. 4 = Federal, 5 = Canada, 9 = California
The third asterisk is the manufacturer. E = Eagle, M = Mitsubishi, P = Plymouth

Engine:
This always seems to be 4G63

Ext:
I have no idea what this means.

Color Trim:
The left code can be obtained from here.
I'm not sure what the right code is.

Opt:
I have no idea what this means.

Line 1:
I have no idea what the first set means.
I have no idea what the second set means.
The third set is the engine transmission code. DDF = 5-speed C514 Manual Transmission
The fourth set is the Market Register, which I've only ever seen as U (I'm guessing for United States)

Line 2:
First code I've only ever seen as APA, which means monotone paint
Second code is the Color 1 field, which can be seen in the link above after the primary color code. I.E. W12/PW7. PW7 would go here.
Third code is the Color 2 field. You probably can't see this without access to Chrysler's data.
Fourth code has no description from the data but you combine two optional equipment codes to form it.
Fifth code is the engine designation, which is EBG for mine.

Line 3:
The first code is the body style, which always comes up as BDFP24 for me.
The second code is the entire VIN.

I've seen three VINs in this thread and I've included my own. The more VINs I have the more I can put together a list that may help decipher these numbers.

The sticker on the driver's door panel has some useful info also.

The "MDH" showing the Month, Day and Hour the chassis was completed, as with My Laser is a June of 1989 build with the MDH of 060912.

Interesting is that Chrysler and Dodge, to this day, still shows the MDH on the info sticker for their new models, and even the VIN structure is similar to the DSM VIN structure.

Thanks Dopefish, mine is the '90 that you decoded. Kinda cool to see! :thumb:

Nice post. Since someone else did a little legwork, I'll add a little more myself.
Engine:
This always seems to be 4G63
Only for the 2.0L. The 1.8L is a 4G37 and will appear so in such equipped vehicles.
Line 1:
I have no idea what the first set means.
I have no idea what the second set means.
The third set is the engine transmission code. DDF = 5-speed C514 Manual Transmission
The fourth set is the Market Register, which I've only ever seen as U (I'm guessing for United States)
Don't ask me what the difference is, but additional possibilities for the third set are:
DG1 -- 4-speed Automatic Transmission
DGB -- All 4-speed Automatic Transmissions
Other possibilities for the fifth code are:
EBA -- 1.8L I4 MPI SOHC 8V (Import)
EBF -- 2.0L 4Cyl 16V DOHC Gas (D/S)

And, to clarify:
EBG -- 2.0L 4 Cyl DOHC 16V Turbo Engine

Line 3: The first code is the body style, which always comes up as BDFP24 for me.
At the very least, I can say that the 24 represents a 2-door hatchback, which is why every VIN you try from a DSM comes up the same.

If we are talking strictly Eagle VINs, here's about 200 each from 1992 and 1993, all AWD:

Looking up VINs for newer CJD vehicles the first set of optional equipment codes with the * and - have to do with the seats.

2015 Dodge Journey
*E5 Prem Cloth Low-Back Bucket Seats
-X9 Black

2012 Jeep Wrangler
*A7 Cloth Seats w/Adj. Head Restraints
-X9 Black

My Talon is *PJ and -AV. I have leather interior that is tan in color.
Looking at my list of vehicles I've pulled VINs on so far I've only seen *P5 and *PJ. And for colors I've only seen -AM, -AV, -AZ, and -FV.

Well it had the child seat brackets so I would say its the first one. It was in the Kansas City market so I doubt it had the export radio delete. I bought it off of a young man at Fort Riley Army Base though. The poor thing had been slapped together by that "mechanic" and his friend. It has always been Red in color with Black cloth interior with a grey houndstooth insert. Factory lsd rear dif. Rear windshield wiper/washer and rear defogger. It is a hardtop, no sunroof with factory Talon swirly rims that I still run to look stock and retain its sleeper appearance. Thanks for your research, it must be time consuming!!! If I can help with anything else to help decode just ask! :thumb:
My 90 Laser is the same color and same build month and year but has a different interior so it may have some answers or clues in its VIN. That VIN is
4P3CS44U1LE137756.

That's cool! The laser has manual windows and locks so maybe some of the additional codes on the talon are for those options and until now I never knew my two cars were built on the same day...that's awesome!
Also manual mirrows.

Can you give some more info on the guy that makes these plates like his name, what group he's in etc..

On Facebook, he is Jason Drew. I actually am glad to have started this thread and the awesome contributions so far.

for my own experience, using different types of lights at various angles, i was able to retrieve the characters off my original sticker 100% so jason could make me a replacement:

However we are now on the 3rd try, as his laser etch was perfect, but the black ink afterwards faded twice. He now powdercoats a coat of clear over the plate once its done etching and screening, and this new plate is on its way to me now.

And here's my plate proof to compare against what Dope came up with:

I've been doing some research since I picked up my DSM and the plate is blank.

4E3CT64U4NE010442
1992 Eagle Talon TSi AWD 2-Door Hatchback
Body Style: BDFP24
Engine: EBG (Description Not Available)
Transmission: DDF (5-Speed C514 Manual Transmission)
Color 1: PQD (Description Not Available)
Color 2: QQD (Description Not Available)
Car Line: D
Build Date: July 22, 1991
Market Register: U
Hour: 10
Book: F
Standard Options: APAS, NAAS, QQDS, YAAS, YCBS, 1AAS, 151S
Optional Options: *P5, -AZ, DDF, EBG, PQD, RDP, 2DJP, 25J, 3VVA

And now that I look at it, i think FQD on the plate should be PQD for the exterior paint code for torquoise, which is also known as T13/PQD

Also, 3rd line from the bottom, the "723", think that should be a "722" since it was built on July 22 ?

Using my own vehicle as reference the build date that Chrysler provides and the build date stamped on the car don't match up.

The data Chrysler provides for my VIN is:
Build Date: March 24, 1992, Hour: 10

On the VIN plate on my door jamb the MDH is 032513

It's close but off slightly. Maybe time zones have a play in it? I don't really know.

Also regarding the numbers at the top of the under-hood VIN plate I wonder if the sticker on the door jamb relates?

There's a DSM sticker on my door jamb that shows:
* 4E3CT64U6NE109554
3 0056 15901
3182129

If anyone with a good under-hood VIN plate can compare the DSM sticker on the door jamb to the numbers at the top of the plate that would be awesome.
