Im curious what everyone's experiences are with auto gsx setups. I recently picked up a 99 auto gst to build on the side and wanted to do something deferent with it. As far as drivetrain Im thinking awd auto conversion with a trans lab shift kit, road surge shift box, Ipt end clutches and 3g eclipse shifter w/ slap shift. Does anyone have experiences with this setup or something similar, I just want to know if it's still fun to drive... I have an auto awd setup lined up but kinda want conformation that it's worth it before I commit 1300 to the trans setup and everything I've listed. Ill probably use the motor and bolt ons in my talon for this car if that factors into anyone's input, it's making roughly 340hp in my m/t talon so I would assume more like 300 with the auto.... I thought the details for that setup were in my profile but I guess not, it's just a td05 20g with td06 cover and healthy 7 bolt with all bolt ons ... Thanks to everyone for any input and comments

Have it chipped by EFI, Translab shift kit, stiffer roll stop mounts, and trans oil cooler and your good to go! The chip will help give more of a "manual" performance with controlled full line pressure and 4-2 shifts. Roll stops will help put the power to the ground. And the cooler will keep the trans alive and living.

Is the EFI chip another route to full line pressure like the Forced Four or Road Surge box?
It makes the chip tuner able to control everything... shift points, shift firmness and also in our cars can activate a true power mode with that power/eco button that seams to do nothing now. Dave does a good job if you have an eprom TCU

here is EFI website if you want it

This has turned out to be a good thread thanks for all the feedback so far!! I'm curious as to whether with the roadsurge box can you choose to let the trans do its own thing or is it always going to be a full line pressure shift?

The roadsurge box has a toggle to switch between stock tcu or shift box.

Its my understanding is that, as long you dont have a huge turbo and/or an aftermarket converter, it would be fine for street duty. The larger turbos wouldnt be coming into play until the upper rpms and a loose converter would just slip on the highway.

I believe I don't have full line pressure until I'm about 75% throttle. So, its kind of controlled and not there all the time to help with street ability.

I'd recommend running full line pressure only under WOT if possible. I dont see any reason why in everyday use you'd want full pressure all the time. When I swap the valve bodies into this car, it's going to be switchable between full and full on a relay in ECMlink, so it'd be configurable to any RPM/TPS i'd want.
