Hey guys, I just am going to be picking up a new pump soon and was wondering if I should go with a 190 or 255, as the title says. I don't have an AFPR right now, so which one would work best? I also have 450's still. Also another reason I am asking is because the 255 is only 5 more dollars LOL. Or should I just wait until I can afford both the AFPR and the pump? Thanks in advance!

If u are goal in for more hp. Then wait for afpr and 255... since if u get 190.. u will have to buy a 255 later and spend twice

I say 255 since that is the way I chose to do it.... However, my build keeps getting delayed due to always needing more supporting mods(if you like delays:) ). AFPR, injectors, fuel pump just for basic fuel needs.

If you have the cash then go 255. If it is a daily driver and you can't buy everything at once, possibly the 190.

Sort of glad that mine isn't a daily driver or I would have been riding the bus for 10+ months while collecting parts. Josh

255 and AFPR +2 Just hold out and get them together.

here is what I did... I found an evo 8 pump and installed it with a rewire... this sets you up for an easy drop in for the 255 later... i found the pump used for $20..

If you are buying new.. wait for the afpr and 255 together. You CAN get away with the 255 and no afpr but its kind of playing roulette that your stock fpr will handle it.

Get the 255 and AFPR at the same time. If you get the 190 now, you'll probably regret it, since there's a good chance that you'll eventually want to upgrade to something bigger down the road.

Alright, thanks guys! I will wait and get the 255 and a AFPR together

Wow, I can't believe nobody asked you what your power goals were before answering...
Nobody can give you a worthwhile answer without knowing your goals, if a 190lph will meet your goals, then get the 190 so you don't have to spend extra money on an afpr when it could go to something else you need instead, like injectors.

Yeah just depends on your plans with the car. More power, the bigger pump and afpr. If your just adding a few little mods and leaving it alone then a 190 is all you'll need.

I forgot to mention btw, but 1 lb/min of air is equivalent to 10hp, in case you didn't already know, so in other words a non re-wired 190 is good for ~380hp @20psi of boost, if you rewire it, it will be good for ~520hp at 20psi boost. Also fuel pumps become less efficient operating at higher fuel pressures(and fuel pressure is raised by boost). Injectors however become more efficient. Here is a chart for DW 1200cc's reflecting that:
http://www.deatschwerks.com/product...-dsm/1995-99-eclipse-dsm/42m-02-1200-4-detail
I used them as an example because its what I have and I knew that they had that data available in their product description. Makes me wonder if whoever did the sticky on supported airflow factored in the increased injector efficiency per boost, thinking they didn't since they didn't list them at varying boost pressures like they did the fuel pumps.

I will probably just go with an AFPR and a rewired 255. I appreciate all of your guys' inputs and help! And thank you for those charts, Tayln. I will for sure use those later on down the road. :thumb:

Also, a noteworthy fact about the pumps, you will hear the 255 in the cabin. The 190 and the evo pumps are pretty silent. You could even go with the Aeromotive stealth which is relatively quiet compared to the 255 due to its design.

V - rewiring a 190 isn't the same as a rewired OEM pump, you have to compare apples to apples. ;)

just about the same price, I'd say just go with the 255 hl pump. Rewiring the stock fuel pump is close to 190.

First off, you can probably find them used somewhere for way cheaper than new prices. We all are swapping out our pumps to grow just like you are starting to. You can find a 190 for cheap; like $30 and a 255 for about $60ish. Many of us are upgrading all the time. I have had a 190 rewired for a few years now with a stock fpr with no issues. It easily supported an Evo3 16g at about 21psi making about 300whp on 93. I'll be pulling it out to swap a 255 I got used so I can switch over to run E85 in the spring.

...get a fp255 If you don't want the walbro whine ;)
Pretty sure these are no longer available; they were closed out at the Shootout two or three years ago when FP sold all they had left for $20 a piece.

Great link justin! I have that bookmarked :) and get a fp255 If you don't want the walbro whine ;)
The walbro 255hp , I just installed one inline and I must say its so quiet it had me checking my fuse to see if it was even running I disconnected the main pump to verify that it was working LOL. Yeah its a turbine pump and has super quiet operation just one of the many upgrades of walbro these days not like the 255 of old.
