The 4g63 eclipse can be converted to all wheel drive. go with the 4g63 car. May be front wheel drive, but it can be converted to all wheel drive with some work and time. If you're looking for a daily driver, then go with the 420a.

From the ad, the top one states that it has an aluminum drive shaft. That would leave me to believe it is an AWD. There is more support for the 4g63 platform than the 420A. I would choose the top so long as the car is what it is presented as. You can change the front and rear bumpers to make it look like the later body style like the bottom car.

The thing that makes me nervous is that the AWD 2G is fully caged, while the 420a-T appears to be a street car. Caged cars can be tricky, and especially if it's an SCCA car. Chances are it's gutted, creaky, rattly, hot, loud, and annoying...all that just for a 16G car isn't my idea of fun, and cutting the cage out and going back to a full interior isn't feasible. I love my 4G63/4G64's so much more than a 420a...but unless the AWD has a minimal cage and full interior similar to Buschur's Badbish, I'd avoid it. Personally I would avoid both and just keep your eye out for an unmolested, near-stock as you can find, AWD DSM.

I found one that the guy will sell for $2200 its a 96 talon tsi AWD, i already went and looked at the car and its in ok condition, my biggest worries are the passenger strut tower is rusted through (i know this is big with these cars, he kept trying to insist how easy it is to fix and how its $35 for the cap) yeah the little sheet metal cap is $35 but paying to have the rust cut out and cap welded in wont be cheap. also a previous owner attempted adding a pop up sunroof now it leaks. so either delete or try to fix and reseal. Motor trans turbo clutch everything mechanically was good, also un-molested only thing aftermarket was the BOV

Also im speaking with the guy that owns the grey caged eclipse. it is AWD and he says the backseat is still it in. im going to try and have him upload a video to youtube of a walk around with hood open and some interior shots of the cage etc. Im driving almost 3 hours to look at the car id like to know what it is before i arrive, even i have to pay for him to make a video via PP

You have to pay a seller to make a video of his car so he can sell it? That is absurd. It takes a couple miuntes. Not sure I would want to do business with the seller. One other thing to note. Run a VIN check before you even look at a car such as carfax. I can see the top one has an aftermarket front bumper.

Exactly what this guy said. If he doesn't want to do a short video that takes literally no effort whatsoever(I have done it repeatedly for people, it takes minutes at most) then you don't want to do business with him. Think of it this way, if he's too lazy to do a minute, maybe minute and a half video, was he too lazy to properly maintain his DSM?

he didnt mention anything im just saying if it was a big deal ill throw you $5 for your time, i understand that too many people bs on craigslist so i would probably be reluctant to post a video myself

2gmitsueclipse

i see your some what local to me! i was browsing the michigan forum and seen the post how the MI DSM scene died. Sad shit but it looks like theres a few die hards sticking around, im just getting my foot in the door and from the POS's i test drove i cant imagine what a properly built one would be.

My advice would be to look south. Make a road trip for the right car. It has taken me up to 6 months to find the right car.

I spent a year and had the car shipped 1500 miles. Dont buy a rust bucket. I dont even know why you would compare a 420a and 4g63. Ive daily driven nothing but dsms since1992. It is the cheapest transportation ive found while still being fun.

Be extremely picky. I refuse to buy a shell for my dsm until I can find one rust free. And definitely check under the car for rust, my current bucket has the entire passenger side underbody bent upwards, because they tried to jack it up from there.

Im stuck i really was set on getting an AWD tsi or gsx but upon shopping local craigslist over the last few weeks 2 promising ads have came up. ill link them here.

Im torn between the 2. I just wish the red eclipse was a gsx =(
My experience says if you want to go fast do your homework and hopefully you know how to turn wrenches because go fast means broken toys. I was just in Muskegon visiting my folks and there are several gst there just be careful not to buy someone else's problems good luck

Why the big rush to decide right now. If it is not exactly what you are looking for i would wait and find the one you really want. I waited through 2 years of looking for dsms before i found the one i have now. I know the feeling you have but be patient.

Im gonna tell you one thing right now stay the hell away from the 4g63 car the guy is trying to pull a fast on in my opinion notice he posted a picture of the car at a track look at that front bumper the fmic spot is giant and was obviously cut that big and has a mitsubishi logo on it still but yet the actual pictures of the car has a totally different bumper on it and all the stickers are gone (i know stickers come off easy) but if he was trying to make it look more stock why keep that hood vent he wants it to appear to be that car stay far away

Just looked at the 420a car its nice but i wouldnt buy it still as not alot of people do the 420as so support will be scarce i would hold off till you find just what you want they are out there you missed out by about 6-8 months my friend was just selling a fully built gsx mint black and around 400+ awhp and was only 4k he wanted and had less than 20k on motor only sold because of a new child so goes to show you deals are lurking even here in michigan
