If you been to Iraq, you will know what they are. But this is the infamous camel spider. This one is a small one compared to some but they are still pretty mean little fookers. They are fast as hell too.

Look at these teeth.

Wow...what do they normally eat?

YOUR FACE...actually they just eat crickets & pillbugs & stuff. They can run up to 10 mph...I believe they hold a speed record for fastest non-flying arthropod. They're completely harmless. Don't believe anything about them eating your face!

I'm still afraid of spiders though.. :toobad:

How long have you been in Iraq for?

Are those two eyes? gross!!!!! :barf:

(I don't like spiders,as you can tell)

Ohh snap!!! iwant one of those as a pet, seriously OMG :thumb:

Thats a crazy lookin mofo. Would be a bi*** to stomp on if they move that fast. LOL!

yeah those things are gross looking. rofl right above his fangs look like major camel toe :[ ROFL

Those damn things can jump. I was over around Saudi and we saw a few of them. We were told those things would bite. They also told us that they jump on "camels" backs and eat holes into them. I'm glad I don't have to worry about running into those anymore.

:barf: I'm going to be sick. Spiders give me the creeps. I got to see a funnelweb spider once. When it stood up on it's hind legs and hissed, I needed a clean pair of underware.

man, if i were to run into one of those. i would just cry, seriously.

According to your link they don't attack but they do eat the stomachs of camels. "Camel spiders eat the stomachs of camels, hence the name "camel spider." (Legend includes the detail that camel spiders eat camel stomachs from either the outside in or the inside out. In the former case they supposedly jump up from the ground and grab onto camels' bellies from underneath; in the latter case exactly how spiders allegedly as large as dinner plates get into camels' stomachs intact remains unexplained.)"

Hahah, woops. I read on and well I was wrong, I read on and: "According to most spider experts, these claims are all false." :coy:

Yea... that falls right under the "myth" section. Those bullets off to the side are common myths about the spiders. :thumb:

Cool. I will still take an amazon bird hunter though...
they can have over a 11" leg span, and can be heard hissing over 15 feet away...
and no that is not a pic of me...
though that is a really good pic of one...
imagine a spider bigger than your HEAD jumping down at you... :thumb: :D

we used to shoot those when were on patrols. They'll chase ya just so they can hide in your shadow, they also like boots too and can leave a nasty bite in self defense. They're not poisonous but they'll take a hunk o meat out of your toe.

Well deserved target practice!

First, someone mentioned the spiders that dissolve flesh, those are NOT funnelwebs..funnelwebs are the most poisonous... the brown recluse is the evil arachnid you're thinking of, and it's in the U.S., and they arent large like tarantulas..they're about the size of the average wolf spider...

Now..on to the GIANT spider that BostedQuest posted..it's actually more of a Tarantula. It's known as the Goliath Bird Eating Spider, and it gets it's name because that's it's main food, along with small mammals and reptiles, and large insects...

There are also some scorpions that can get quite freakin large... I've seen 2, but they were raised in captivity. For a bug that really bothers me...the madagascar hissing COCKROACH... not only are they roaches that hiss, they're pretty big..I wanna say 10 full grown ones would fairly cover your average dinner plate. I would have having to squish one..it'd be like stomping a banana...that crunches...
