Hey guys,

After not having enough clearance for my down pipe on my HX35, i'm going to do an Evo IX OFH swap. With it im going to run an external oil cooler, and need help deciding where to mount it. I had an idea of mounting it on the driver-side of my FMIC, but i have not seen anyone mount it there before. Reasons I wanted to mount it there is for an easier instal (no custom bracket), more air flow, and appearance.

My concerns are the oil cooler is going to be hot, and may cause my charge temps to rise. This car is by no means a track car, and will used as a weekend warrior.

Saw a thread about the same thing but was not resolved, so i thought i'd start a new one.

Any input is appreciated!

Look at some of the install how tos.
The driver side wheel wells is the perfect spot. Just make sure your cooler is not too big or else you will have fitment issues.

Driver side next to the FMIC will work very well. I wouldn't worry about it increasing your charge temps unless you mount the cooler right under your air filter. Why do you think it will increase temps?

Here is an install write up: http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/2g-external-oil-cooler-install.271069/
Post 3 is a great example and how I will be mounting mine.

Why do you think it will increase temps?

Well if mounted on my intercooler, the air running through the oil cooler would now be hot, and hot air blowing on the intercooler doesn't seem to smart. Or am I not thinking about that right?

I use the driver side bumper open location for my oil cooler.

Very nice, is that ducking from the stock SMIC? I might do that.

You can fit a much larger one on the passenger side. I'm using a 10.5x13x2" core. That won't fit on the passenger side without removing ABS unit or trimming the bumper cover.

Thanks for the input guys, but is there anything wrong with it on the intercooler?

This is how i have mine mounted too. It took maybe 20 minutes to do once the bumper was off. I used the bolt for the horn as an anchor point. Dont mind the fender, a deer hit me. :shhh:
