New to the Forum and to DSM's
I have enjoyed reading all the Tech Articles. I just picked up a 97 GSX with 50K on it and cant wait to start working on it. I have the following mods so far.
JIC Coilovers
FP Green
650cc ball disc injectors
Urethane Suspension bushings
Billet a-arms
AEM Standalone(Series1)
Volk wheels
ACT 2600
I have the stock 7 bolt in it now. I am going to make an appointment to get the car tuned. I already bought Evo brembos, Galant Knuckles and am planning to to the Brembo swap as soon as I find somewhere to get the calipers media blasted, powder coated and rebuilt. If anyone can recommend somewhere let me know. I am going to start working on the dust shields and acquiring all the parts needed for the swap. I am trying to read up on what master cylinder to use. So other than the tune and a stereo that will be the first mod. I have been searching the classifieds for a set of injectors.
Future mods will be a built 6 bolt, with 2G head, stage 2 tranny and maybe a clutch unless what I have is fine. I have been reading up on the twin disc clutches but not sure if I want one since the car is my daily driver. I am going to try and find some components for the AC since it has all been removed due to the condenser being in the way of the short route piping> I need to research how to go about getting AC back in the car. mainly if I have the room for the condenser and what it would cost to find a compressor, condenser and all the AC lines etc.
Thanks again for all your articles they have really helped me out

I am so bummed a lost compression in 2 cylinder a day before i was supposed get my car tuned. i have an AEM seriies 1. Iam debating wheter to do a 6 bolt swap with 2G 7 bolt head. I have been reading tech articles about what is envolved in the swa.p Do you happen to know anyone that has personally done one? I would love to pick their brains to answer some questions i have. I am also looking for a built longblock if you know anyone that one for sale.
Thanks,
John 720-261-3213

Cool to see another Mile High DSMer. Sharp ride by the way.

Sorry to hear about the unhealthy motor. Have you tracked down where the loss of compression is coming from using something like a leak-down test? I know it's not what you asked, but if it's a head gasket, it'd probably be an easier fix logistically speaking.

My number is 720-261-3213 give me a call sometime. This is my first DSM and i am looking for a bunch of parts. complete AC system except for evaporator core etc. Where in Colorado are you located. I live in Erie near Boulder[DOUBLEPOST=1413582879][/DOUBLEPOST]i did a compression check and compression is low in 2 cyl. I pulled the turbo off and it did not take out the hotside. i didnt do a leakdown test. it would be nice if its only a headgasket but i think i melted doen 2 cylinders. i am surprised it didnt take out the turbo so i may be wrong. What do you think?[DOUBLEPOST=1413583454][/DOUBLEPOST]i bought an engine stand and a hanyes manual but need to rent an engine hoist and balancer. I was hoping I can pull just the motor but from what i have read on the forums i suppose i need to pull motor and tranny together- looks like the brackets on engine for hooking u hoist chains have been removed so i am trying to figure out where i can hook up the hoist chains. i guess i will do a 6 bolt conversion and use my 2G head so i have reading up on that and trying to locate a built short or lonblock for sale.

I live in Commerce City, so you're not far from me. I've got a few parts lying around still, but I unfortunately got rid of the bulk of my DSM stuff when I moved. In regards to A/C stuff, I think all I have is the A/C compressor bracket that mounts to the engine, the A/C pulley, and the A/C fuse box.

Harbor Freight has an inexpensive engine hoist. My rallycross buddy got one a while back and it's served him well. It's often easier to pull the tranny and motor together on these small cars.

You can also use the front and rear roll stops on the 4G63 along with the two side motor mounts. I used a combination of straps and the chain to pull the last 4G63 motor.

There's a front metal loop used for a hoist off the exhaust manifold, but it's almost always removed by an owner to make way for an aftermarket manifold. Most of them are long gone now. Photo below.
