What is a good exhaust temp so I don't cook my turbo?

What is a good exhaust temp on a GSX? I have a FP Black turbo and I don't want to cook it. When I'm beating on the car it goes up to about 1200/1300F. Normal temp is generally around 1000F. I don't know if that is good or bad.

Also, if you turn up your AFR so you are dumping more fuel, will that make your exhaust hotter? My brother said it could because you are dumping more unburnt fuel into your exhaust, which actually makes sense.

Thanks
David

I called Forced Performance about their FP black turbo which my car has. The guy told me that 1100-1200 seems low to him during normal operations. He said you want it less than 1700 and it will most likely go up to 1700 when you are beating on the car. He told me that you want to make sure that the turbo is cooled down enough when you shut the car off and the rule of thumb he suggested was 900F or less for 90 seconds. Figured I'd pass this onto you guys in case any of you didn't know this. :)

Mine is tapped at the #1 runner. My temp at idle is 800F, my cruise is 1100- 1200f, and it will climb to 1600F by 7500 RPM easily, so Id say they are correct. I kinda thought mine was excessively high... until just now LOL

Reason why turbo timers are a good mod in my opinion. I don't understand why people hate on them, after a joy ride, it would be nerve racking to have to sit in my car that extra time. Thanks for that info!

Back in the day when we'd run the greddy EGT gauge, we'd set the warning for 850c (1562F) and make sure to never go over 900c (1652F). On a fwd 20g with full supporting mods, I never got more than 1 blip of knock on a pull.

1200is too low at wot and high rpm. should b around 1600. ur most likely running too rich. leaning it out a bit will give u more power and higher temps.

My cruise temps are 450-650F.. you aren't towing anything are you? :D

You guys are running pretty hot, not that it's uncommon however. I try to keep everything below 1400. Granted, I also set out to control EGTs and cylinder head temp from the get go.

~1200F is definitely not too low, especially on longer pulls.

you are on e85 that why your temps are lower

If you think E85 alone accounts for ~400F differential, I have a bridge to sell you. Also, this setup gets 2-3gallons of pump 93 run through every few fill ups. The temp change is negligible at idle/cruise, and usually within 100F pre-turbine on my gas tune, which is considerably richer with less timing during spool up than my E85 maps.. both of which put more heat out of the chamber.
