i just want a few questions answered about Tactrix 2.0 if anyone could that would be awesome.

My 97 Talon wont pass obd emissions due to having that amazing issue of not setting the monitors. In PA it has to if its an obd 2 car. Previous owner decided the vehicle didn't need a cat and gutted it, so even though only my 3 continuous were the only to set out of 8 it threw p0420. So....wanted to keep my car stock, and realizing the insane price of stock replacement parts...i got a full 3' stainless exhaust for $50 from a friend. this also deleted the rear o2 sensor and now i still haven't passed emissions. i hate modifying my daily but it is what it is. i have no issue paying for a new Tactrix cable thats not how this is ending with 'someone sell me one for $5 and some worthless junk'. Will is delete the processes for the rear o2 and can i manually set all of my emissions monitors as ive been told its capable of? I'm fully capable of using link so this software cant be that difficult.

Thanks, Kenny

Im from PA as well and I have emissions testing in my county but Ive never heard of them doing an obd test for emissions? Ive also never seen them do this so Im a little confused unless its just something to do with your county?

Its not the cable that does it, its the software, though I know how to do it I'm not going to tell you because it is illegal and your daily driver, so don't pollute unecessarily. Why not put a cat in it, many high flow ones can be had for not much money. Then your rear O2 will set and the car will pass.

You live in the counties that dont require it. im a licensed state emission and inspections tech and there are 3 stages of emissions. 1) no required in northern counties. 2) OBD counties such as Lancaster, York, Dauphin, Lebanon. pre 1996 is only a visual and gas cap. 3) 5 gas counties, Philly, Pittsburgh and the surrounding high populous areas.

I have a black box, and its not that im unnecessarily polluting, thats more money then the cost of tactrix. I work at Autozone, i can get high flow magnaflow cats all day for good prices. sometimes they wont trip the code process and still show a p0420. also that leads to another bung and more exhaust modification. i mean i should be abiding by the law seeing as i am licensed but technically on 96 and newer vehicles in an emissions required county there is no visual inspection. its only obd tested. my question was answered indirectly, so i will be buying Tactrix. $180 and less then 1 hour compared to finding a stainless 3" highflow, then paying for further work. Since its 6 bolt swapped it will never set monitors anyways with out the crank trigger setup from kiggly. so its spend money and solve my issue, or spend money and still not have legitimate inspection.

There is a specific issues with these cars, there was a big thread about it years ago. From what i remember they are supposed to be exempt from the monitor readiness test.

Yes, according to the EPA, our cars are exempt from the readiness monitors.

http://www.epa.gov/otaq/regs/im/obd/regtech/420f08009.pdf

"The recommended procedure for handling these vehicles is to scan them for MIL illumination without regard to readiness status."

Seems like the kid doing the emissions testing just wanted to cause you issues, I'd take the information provided to you, and go to his manager!

That's great to know were exempt from that test!
Thanks for that information!

Unfortunately for your original question the answer is no if you are trying to use an eclipse ECU. Ceddy didn't make it that far with looking that information before putting the Eclipse ECU ROM on hold and moving on the the 3000gt ROM. There is another option but it does require more modification you may not really want to have to do.

I've used an eclipse black box in a Talon before without issue. So what exactly happens to make you say that it doesn't work? I know of a 97 Talon locally with a black box and it's functions and runs fine. With the EPA link here I should be able to trump PA and get around it now. Thanks alot everyone!

Sorry, I wasn't saying that using an eclipse ECU in a talon wont work. Your original question

I went through ECU flash just to double check and make sure. Ceddy (the guy that dug up most of the maps for the black box ECU) never got around to looking up the readiness monitors like the guys over in the EVO community did in the EVO8 ECU. So to answer your original question (mostly for future reference now at this point) I was saying that you cant use the Tactrix cable and a black box ECU and make the readiness monitors good. Now if you swapped over to the EVO ecu on the other hand... There is a little bit of rewiring that needs to be done to make that work though.
