Just wondering who everyone likes for head rebuilds. I'm looking to get my head rebuilt as I bent some valves and just wanted to know who you all go to?

I had my AWD Talon's head rebuilt by SIM. They offered great customer service, quick turnaround (relative to car part rebuilds) gave me two cam sprockets free, and retapped four head studs for the price of two.

Pricey if you include the shipping for something that's pretty simple, but being in the middle of a move, new job, school, and girl problems, I just didn't have the time.

BTW: if you're willing to learn, a DSM head rebuild is pretty straight forward. When I did my Laser's head, all I had to buy was the valve spring compressor tool (picture below). Head surfacing and hot tanking is all I had to farm out. The rest I did in my apartment living room.

Before you send it off do yourself a favor and spend the time polishing the combustion chamber. A shop will charge a LOT, cause its a PITA but you can do it yourself at home with basic tools and save over 500 bucks. If you have a spring tool you're pretty much only going to have to send off for a 3 angle cut, deck, and hot tanking.
blktalon3 has the best link anyone can provide for a diy'er. That dude covers everything and then some. And he does in a way that just....works. Idk, maybe its the cadence of his speech, his voice, whatever it is his videos are flat out the best out there for dsms. He makes everything simple and is quite articulate, and succinct when necessary.

SIM Gets my vote they will be building my built head when I get things in order.[DOUBLEPOST=1412901602][/DOUBLEPOST]Check out force engineering too, another around here or john whalen hes around here too you cant to wrong with any of them.

Bogus is my man to go to!! You won't have any issues and you will get a perfect head ready to bolt on and make boost!

He was my #1 pick but alas, i waited too long and I guess his shop got flooded by the time i was ready to pull the trigger. I would guess he's probably up there as good, dare i say, possibly better than even JAM?
Guy really seems like he has an insane amount of knowledge along with crazy attention to detail. Bet his prices are good too. Never got that far in discussion unfortunately.

Here's hoping bogus finds his way back to the forums. He was/is an indispensable member here. His willingness to share info and general demeanor in all his posts is outstanding.

If i ever need another head built I hope he's around. My SIM head is ported NICELY and with the valves apparently seating now and no media in the head, it should be a winner. Review to come on the SIM experience, great customer service though. Best i've seen.

You can probably still buy a new Oem head cheaper than a rebuild with bad guides, and valves. I bought one on eBay for $400, and it was as listed, brand new oem. The seller has since upped the price, but I believe they still have inventory.

Im sure he's swamped. But I can tell you I will never buy another head from anyone else! Only a few other people I would trust to get from i guess. I've been screwed on the last 2 heads I bought off the classifieds. Really sucks and is such a huge waste of time and money!!!

I use Clearwater Cylinder Head. But they're local to me. Shipping back and forth to Canada may end up biting you. I've bought rebuilt heads from them a couple of times. $335 picked up, with warranty.

Forgot to add - No core required.

Force engineering in a heart beat. They built my Evo 2.4LR bottom end and rebuilt a few heads of mine. They did a great job and the prices were not as steep as "other vendors".
Granted these heads are easy to work on, any reputable machine shop would work.

Ive even used car quest once. Dropped the head off, picked it up 3 days later. My bill was only $115 for a 3 angle valve job, and a deck.

We would be happy to work with you, feel free to give us a call at (269)350-9055 Austin will get you hooked up!!!

We also have FREE SHIPPING for the month of October!!

Thanks for the heads up donnie. Just bought one for $395. Looks like theres one left at 395, and one at 595.
The one I bought is on my car now. It works great. The Oem valve job is great, and the head has the oem deck finish, sealing up great with a cometic Mls.

Also, brand new springs are great to 8,000 rpms, with cams designed to be drop in. I'd be worried running even 264's with 100,000 mile plus springs.

A friend of mine has one for his 3000gt 4g64 build. He's using upgraded springs, and some huge kelfords. The one thing you can't upgrade on any built head is returning it to stock deck thickness. I've pushed coolant on plenty on sub 600hp cars, and I think sometims the problem was a head that had been milled to many times.

I suspect the same deal, I'm not sure if it's decking them or just use. but they do seem to get soft and not hold as well as they used to, after a few seasons.

I have a head that I torched long ago. I'm going to try and weld it up and cut the water ports out and put some put some supports in to hold the deck stiffer. I read an SAE article about the GM racing ecotech project and they were cross drilling through the intake ports and the sides of the heads. Then theyd screw in a set screw down to the deck to stiffen it up. Pretty neat idea.
