Hello,

Car: Stock 95 GST 5 speed (207k miles)

This is maybe my second post on here but overall, I'm new to DSMs. I've got one currently in my possession that i may be picking up to buy. I've been driving it around for the past week and noticed a few things i can't quite diagnose myself. I've already searched but haven't found solid results and would like some just hard fact answers.

First of all, It is leaking oil out of the oil pan and possible the oil filter housing. I'm not worried about this both are easy fixes from looking at them and searching. But my this goes along with my first issue. the car smells like it burns oil but not when cruising along under low boost. When flooring it or under "high" boost. (all 10lbs of it) it smells real bad. I'm assuming the turbo is the culprit. I did a compression test and the numbers were solid yet i'm still waiting to do a leak down test until later this week. Any ideas on this one? I'm guessing its the turbo not just burning leaked oil.

Second, My clutch likes to stick a little bit not too the floor but just gets a little sticky under hard left turns. Now I've read that this is a sign of crank walk and then again it's not related at all and could just be a clutch issue. I've tinkerd with the harmonic balancer pulley a little and it doesnt seem to have much movement at all. Is there a good way to check that specifically or were one of the threads I found just wrong when it said it wasn't crank walk? again any help on this would be great.

I've owned a few turbo'd cars in the past but I've been a subaru owner. (I know, I know)
This is the first DSM i've owned but i'm not afraid to tear the thing apart if i need to just want to know if I have to. I'm essentially just trying to make a daily out of this thing for now.

Any help would be much appreciated!

First issue: Replace PCV valve. Check compressor wheel for in/out play. Consider installing new valve stem seals if the problem persists with no other explanation.

Second issue: Check transmission bellhousing to engine bolts, drivers side motor mount, clutch line, slave cylinder mounting, consider bleeding the clutch, and measure actual crank endplay before saying anything else about crankwalk.


I daily an '11 WRX.
