I just bought my second spyder gst but it had a blown turbo. The guy included an evo8 16g that he bought but said he couldn't get it installed without some sort of fabrication...I'm still tearing everything apart before trying to install a turbo. I warped some valves on my previous spyder so I can pull the turbo from it if necessary but am trying to figure out if I should go ahead and install the evo8? I saw something about boost creep and I don't kno what that is yet but I intend to find out because it doesn't sound very friendly to my car! I have plans for some mods, but nothing huge...fmic, new boost gauge, I've got a walbro 255 in my other car that's never seen fuel, maybe a fpr, not sure about what I'll do with the exhaust yet, I'll probably end up getting an mbc too and redoing the intake that's already on here along with the 1g bov and hard piping I need to install. I've got all these things mapped out in order of installation and what needs to be first, along with doing all the routine checks and maintenance before I ever fire it, just in case!! I had a bad experience with my last one because I didn't know what I know now and it cost me a couple grand! I want the car to be a work car (back and forth about 6-8 miles) as well as a lil play toy. I think I've read that the t25 is better than the 14b's but since I've already got the 16g I figured why not, right? But if I put the 16g on, I was afraid also that I may lose my low end spool/boost without more supporting mods vs the 14b or t25.

Change in plans guys....was talking to my buddy that's going to give me his safc and we started talking about our cars (he's building a gsx) and when I was telling him I'm still trying to find a turbo he told me he's got a freshly rebuilt hx35 I can get for $100. So needless to say, I'm now looking for a t3 manifold and a new o2 housing.

An safc has no business on the same car as a turbo of that size. You need to look into another solution for tuning. You will also need quite a bit of supporting mods for a turbo of that size if you don't already have them.

Thats good it seems like youve got a good start, try to look in classifieds for the housings they should be easy to find or most vendors.

Bryanwheat--Have several things/things in mind (waiting on funds) as far as mods, but what do u suggest and what should I tune with instead of the safc?

iugrad92turbo--thanks, hopefully I'll have all this atleast bought by first of the year

Either a black box ecu, or ecmlink. You are going to need some decent sized injectors, probably 750's at least. The safc will be no good trying to get a good tune with injectors that size.

Get a logger and wideband if you dont already i never used the safc i just got link, or you can get a chip burned, again i only used link, ecmlink is dsm link the name was changed years ago.

I was thinking close to 1k on injectors. What's black box and is ecm link the same as dsm link?

A black box is a late 2g ecu , which is flashable with a tactrix cable and ecuflash free software. It is cheaper than link but a little trickier to tune. Ecmlink is just the new name for dsmlink.[DOUBLEPOST=1411870939][/DOUBLEPOST]
Are loggers and link one in the same it two dif things? Wideband is on lists...what's the dif in having a chip burned and getting link?

You wouldn't need a logger with link or with the black box and ecmlink. As far as having a chip burned, you can buy one from dsmchips.com or someone else, but the tune will need to be tweaked. You will also need an eprom ecu that is socketed. IT will cost you maybe a little more to just get the black box and taxtrix 2.0 cable and you can tune it all you want. With a chip you will have to keep removing it and re-burning it to get the tune just right.

with link you can tune the car with lots of information monitor things view things, get your af in order its simple to use once you start working with it, the list goes on check out the site, its all there. i skipped aem after i read more about link and how to use it.

  • I'm gonna try to check tmrw but I need to find out exactly which ecu/ecm I have. Long story short, I bought the car after a motor swap (either a 4g63 or a 4g64--> 4g63t) and I'm not sure if they swapped computers. I do kno they did drive it and ended up blowing the turbo but I'm not sure why and just thought of this-would it have jury the motor if they didn't swap computers?
[DOUBLEPOST=1411926144][/DOUBLEPOST]How do I kno if the ecu I have is already socketed or an eprom?
