so I turn 17 in 3 months and I'll be getting my licenses soon and I know insurance won't be cheap.

I have a 1995 eagle talon tsi awd.
clean record. and I'll most likely will have better than a 3.0 gpa.

How much do you guys pay? and who would be the cheapest company to go with?

It varies from state to state. I have progressive but you really need to shop around to find the best rate for you. In NC they have a new driver insurance rate that is higher than everyone for the first 3 years that you own your license just because they are a new driver.

When I was 17, I was paying around $300 Down payment with a $260ish monthly payment for 6 months of PIP only insurance. As time went on, it eventually got cheaper. A few years later I was paying for 2 cars under PIP for around $70ish. What is going to really matter is keeping a clean record. Insurance will be expensive at the start. But gets cheaper as you keep a good driving profile.

When I was 16 I payed 186 a month for liability for my v8 firebird, I shopped around too kinda sucks but that's the price we pay sometimes to drive what we want. I had a 3.2 gpa.
Maybe if your parents are nice enough they can add you to their plan and add you as a driver or secondary driver.

At 17 I paid $90 a month for liability on my 1g, Tsi AWD and everything. It actually surprised me. I have Erie insurance. 3.2 GPA as well.

Alot of guys I knew would buy their hot car but have ole dad put it on his insurance as his car and then buy a piece O crap econobox as the kid car with liability only. The thing is ole dads insurance would cover other drivers driving his car so it was no problem if something happened and I was driving it... I meant "they" not "I". Plain and simple it's cheating, possibly have your insurance dropped, and probably illegal today. (this was years ago ha ha so the statute of limitations has expired)

Something you can check into is what kind of mileage you intend to drive. Some insurance companies will give you a lesser rate if you drive less mileage even for new drivers. They will have you report your vehicle mileage to them several times a year if you do this. Once you go over the set "part time driver" mileage they step you up to a full time driver rate. Heck try it out and if you go over oh well you got a couple months at a cheaper rate.

Shopping around is the only way you will find out what company will offer you the "best" rate with your credentials; state, garaged vs. not, length of driving experience, theft rates in the area, driving record, estimated annual milage, credit. Asking "which insurance is cheaper" is like asking any other "which is best" question. There are a lot of variable that can't be taken into account by everyone else across the country.

In the end, I'd suggest you call Progressive for a quote. Each company you provide your information to does a soft look at your credit history. Even though it's a soft, it still shows on your credit history. (A hard pull would be when you apply for a credit card.) Lot's of companies looking into your credit report and leaving their mark (because they looked) is not a good thing. By calling Progressive, they will tell you other companies they've also looked at- some more expensive, some possibly cheaper; but it's just one company vs. calling Progressive, Erie, Travelers, State Farm....
