Well I've gotten to the point where I'am ready to post up what Iv'e been building :)

Here is some background on the Project.

I've been really interested in the local drift scene and after spectating a few events I wanted to join in but couldn't justify the price/drift tax thats attached to the 240's in my area. A friend of mine was also interested in drifting and picked up a Base FC which sparked my interest in the platform. After some research on swaps and casually checking craigslist, I found one up for sale for $400.00 bux and couldn't resist the urge.

A 91 Rx7 fc, not sure of the model but came with an auto transmission and automatic seat belts.

Here is how I got it…

The interior wasn't too bad but it was missing the speedometer and nearly everything else in the dash/window switches/etc.

So I figured its best suited as a track only car.

Halfway through removing some things not needed.

I grabbed a wide block 6bolt 4g64 from the local JY on black friday for half price and was able to source the Rx7 Turbo2 Model R Transmission and an 88' B2600 Bell housing that bolts up to the wide block for cheap. I know everyone drops LS motors in these but I'am unfamiliar with the platform and I had an extra 2g head lying around with several other 4g63 spare parts.

My first huge task was mounting the engine. I've never fabricated custom mounts although I've done an awd swap to a 7g Galant successfully.

So here is the engine being lowered in

After some time I cam up with this.

For the engine mounts, I got a 3 inch square steel 8th inch thick tube and picked up some trailing arms from a an older isuzu Passport in the JY. Cut em up and welded them the best I could with my HF 90amp arc welder LOL.

I plan on getting everything else fabricated, wired up and then will remove the engine and re-spray the car before finishing up.

Thats about all for now but want to send a big thanks to a few people that have helped me out with Private Messages and questions.

ColtBoostin: First 4g63 FC Swap nicknamed "Fuzion" (Thanks for answering questions.)
BogusSVO: Thanks for answering my questions and providing so much info.
Jafromobile: Watched almost all his vids, and really helps with staying organized and other tricks.

Let me know your thoughts or better way of doing some things if anything looks wrong in the pics. Thanks

this is awesome. good luck with everything!

I also have an fc turbo of course i stood with the good old wankel...but this is awesome!

Thanks, I really like the look of the car and probably would have worked with the original motor that came with it (if it was there) but I figured this is pretty cool too.

Yep plan on using the stock diff and welding, from what I read its not a t2 stronger diff but have seen threads of a welded one holding up under power from a 2jz so I think it will be fine for now.

Sup black92_tsi_awd, Nice build !! I was planning on heading over to that other forum and updating when I had a bit more going on. Out of curiosity, how did you wire up the engine? reuse stock harness or custom made your own?

Also that album is private.

I ran a non turbo rear for a while on my old rx7 drag car..it only last if you dont launch it hard ..turbo2 rear is the way to go if it sees the race track

Nice!! I'm usually not a big rx platform fan but I like your gen. I love swaps always an interesting read and nice to see how people do it.
im thinking of swapping my 84 p-type supra (my siggy) but havent decided for sure or not yet.

Looks pretty cool man!

I'm just a little curious about the mounts. I think if you inserted a "slug" into the end of the trailing arms, say a 4" piece, then welded them straight together it would look 10x nicer. You should also drill at least two holes on each end and rosette weld the slug in place. Just a suggestion if you'd want to make it look cleaner :)

Looks like it will be a sweet ride though!

Thanks for the pointers Breezio, Iam coming from a Information technology field and have gotten my ideas from the web and other cars I've seen, What do you mean by a "slug" If you could point me towards an example, I will more then likely make the change.

This photo in conjunction with a description should give you the idea.

You basically take your trailing arm and measure the inside diameter of the tubing. Then you match that up with the outside diameter of a smaller piece of metal (in your case 3-4" would sleeve the entire thing). You drill a couple of holes to "rosette" weld the slug in place on both pieces of your trailing arm. Then make sure you grind yourself a nice "valley" to fill with weld, which means just making 45º grind around the outside of your pieces where you plan to weld. Butt he two pieces togther and burn the two pipes together, then rosette weld the other piece to the slug.

After a little bump and grinding it should look like it was never cut in half and have some serious strength :thumb:

Hmm nice thanks for the description, but the mounts need to be offset / slanted, It would have taken a bit longer to get the angle correct but would definitely look better :)

Iam going to spray it black and after the intake/turbo goes on, it will be barley noticeable.

Wow how time flys :) I just wanted to drop a small update....
Iam pretty much stuck when it comes to the oil pan..

I spent a lot of time trying to arc weld a solution out of the oem pan only to find out it leaks like crazy afterwards with all the pin holes. :(

I've reached out to a few vendors about building one with no luck yet, the next best thing I figured was to try again with a tig setup..

So Iam nearly completed gathering all those items for a simple scratch start setup and will post progress afterwards....

Iam also playing around with the idea of casting an aluminum one from a home foundry setup but thats on the backburner for now.

If anyone has any other solution's let me know..

I would try getting someone to Tig it for you. To save some cash, You could cut all the pieces out, tack them with a Mig and send them to a welder to finish weld. Make sure your gaps are tight.

Soooooo......

I had to step away from this project to complete a different one and get that out.. Now iam back at it with more tools to complete the build... Alot of life stuff has happened in between but I've managed to keep the rx 7 in tact.

Here is an updated list of the parts I've gathered for the build...

2g 4g63 Head
6 bolt Wide Block 4g64
BC Springs and Retainers.
BC 272 Cams
FRH RWD Cast Intake Manifold.
FFWD Tstat Block Off
Manly H-Beam Rods
Weisco Pistons.
ACL race Bearings
Arp Head Studs
Kiggly 6 bolt Crank Trigger
HX40
3g Eclipse Ecu flashed with Tephra
Lincoln mark8 Radiator Fan
Summit Custom Radiator.
Diy Cop Setup

Parts iam looking for planing on making.
Custom Top Mount TS Manifold /Downpipe
Injectors.. hoping for 500+hp range.
Throttle Body "Thinking of using 1g na TB"

So I scored this pan from a fella here on the fourms that was willing to let it go..
20161119_135745_zps98bigbgv.jpg

Then I added a rear pickup tube from a mazda miata 1.8 and a splash plate, the tube was the same diameter as the 4g64 but the pickup was a slightly different design, I also had to modify the flange to fit and bend it a little.

Yep I had the same one but swapped it with a gsx drivetrain, was very fun but drove a bit tooo rough.... hoping the rx7 will have a little more solid feel. I passed up the 8g and got a Evo IX instead....

Figured out a trick setup for the power steering since the exhaust manifold placed the turbo to far north making it unable to use original ps pump. I'am using a pump from a volvo s40 plumbed directly into the rx7 rack.. I may add a filter later.. but decided on the volvo pump instead of the mr2 cause price was nearly half and they are more abundant.

Don't feel bad, my 4g63 Rx7 has been sitting under a car cover for over a year because of multiple engine rebuild problem (2 cranks, 4 blocks, 5 different heads) and I'm still in need of a cylinder head to finish.

Keep at it, it would be nice to see another one out there.

Things are moving along....

I actually re-made the passenger motor mount because I found a very well made 12an oil drain ss line from ebay user of nascar team that interfered with the original mount i made.

Latest list of things working on below
grimspeed 3 port.
extremepsi oil feed line for holset
Fuel line and fittings 6an.
Cleaned the fuel tank.. It was full of old gas :(
raspberry pi and screen for speedometer rpm/mph/boost etc readout
digital vehicle speed sensor for transmission
building battery box behind passenger seat.. "going to post some pics on this when I get farther along"

On a side note these things are finished...
Intercooler and piping fabbed and bolted in.
Brake calipers painted and ss brake lines installed.
Mounted electronics plate and ecu.
DIY COP completed and plugged up.
Throttle Body installed and found a TB cable from a Montero that fit.
