This is my 95 Eclipse Gsx when i purchased it when i was 16. Drove it for 2 weeks and the center diff let go and took that trans with it, 6 months later i saved enough for a stage 4 tre trans. over the course of the 2 years i owed this car i added, dsmlink v2, fic 650cc injectors, walbro 190lph pump, evo 3 16g, 1g bov, autometer boost oil and water temp gauges, the racing harts where sold and shortly after the car was aswell.
6 years later and the car had passed through 2 owners but had never been running or seen the road since i sold it. A friend of mine acquired it for a trade for a jetta and was planning on getting it running but soon gave up and offered to sell it to me stating that if was to be crushed if i didn't buy it. Well he gave me a good deal on it and i had it trailered to my house.
The car was in shambles, interior was completely taken apart with broken trim and missing hardware. under the hood it was missing all the belt pulleys, timing plastics, radiator fans, radiator hoses drivers side motor mount, and had a complete mess of abs pipe and plumbing couplers connecting the side mount. The Gauges where gone as was the Evo 16G, but the TRE trans and dsmlink along with most of my other mods remained.
So began the process of getting parts to start the car and see what was really wrong this went on for 3-4 months and finally came the day to start the 7 bolt. And when it did start that was very clearly a rod knocking from cylinder 1 (My guess is its from sitting with the head off for 6 years as it didn't have a knock when i sold it and hadn't been ran since i owned it) oil and oil filter where full of shavings confirming this.
That same day after the car was found to be a knocker, i found a 6 bolt long block minus a few pieces for $75 in some guys barn and promptly purchased it and brought it home and tore it down.
T25 bearing found in 7 bolt oil pan from when i blew the t25 around 6 years ago...
I don't have a picture but the rod bearing on cylinder 1 was so gone that the piston was touching the head and cleaning the carbon off of the head with the lip around the top of the piston..........could have ended badly all other bearings looked fine upon disassembly.
Rebuilt waiting on the stand
Evo Vs. 2G piston for comparison (Not my pic)
The block was soon dropped off at a local machine shop and was bored .020 over and the crank was polished along with a full inspection and hot tank. ARP hardware was used for the head studs, main studs and rod bolts, 6 bolt rods where machined to take the wrist pin of the .020 over evo 9 pistons.
My 2g head was reworked with the valves lapped new valve stem seals and new lifters (not revised). the rest of the parts where ordered including a new oem oil pan rear main seal plate, timing plastics, 1g cas,Balance Shaft Eliminator, straight cut oil pump gears timing components, cometic head gasket, acl tri-metal race bearings, head oil passages mod was preformed and the 2g head was machined for the 6 bolt head studs ext and before long it was time to install.
autometer ultra-lite boost and oil pressure gauges a Innovate MTX-L wideband where installed. Red led bulbs where installed in the autometers soon to be installed in the gauge cluster and rest of the interior.
And As the muffler of the old exhaust had rusted off and that the old exhaust was a hack job of a oem downpipe welded into a 3in cat then welded to a 2.5in transition then to a 3in catback. It was replaced with a 3in SRS catback and a 3in Megan downpipe.
Install was uneventful and everything when smoothly engine was primed Prothane mounts where installed and the 14B turbo i sourced was installed along with the side mount with the nightmare piping. Set Dsmlink for injector size ect and it was time to start. Started fine idled good followed ams break in recommendations however upon the first drive the tach started jumping around and the car kept dying when it was warmed up. A quick search on here and i found i had a bad power transistor, trip to the parts store and the car was running well and the break in was under way. Break in went well and the car was tuned for wastegate pressure even at only 10psi the jury rigged side mount set up had to go.
