I've started tracking my fuel mileage recently on TrackYourGasMileage - Keep a tab on your car's consumption (25.95 ave so far) and that reminded me of threads with people posting their MPGs and such, and I thought of a little game for anyone that wants to play. You can see your car's MPG and maybe have something to brag about. :p

What do you guys think of it?
((If this is in the wrong forum, or against the rules, please feel free to PM me and I will close it out.))

Flaws I can see with my idea is some might think mileage and such is a bit personal, and the other problem is people would have to send the data to the people that wants to do the counting. The easiest would be using the classic view of the statistic and Copy and Past into a message.

DSM TUNERS MPG CHALLENGE

Ever wonder if your fuel milage is normal? Ever wonder if others drive as much? Here's a chance.
My challenge will take place over the course of the year 2010. Jan 2011 we can see what the participants did over the year. We can do Highest, lowest of Distance, mpg, cost (per mile and gallon) and so forth.

As for prizes, I'm not sure just yet what I could offer. Possibly a sticker or drawing relating to the particular award. I've got a year to figure that out. :p

RULES:
1.) To track the stats, you will need use the receipt to record the minimum Date, Distance, Volume, and Price per Volume. The website actually has notes, and time that you can add in for personal record keeping. I usually write the trip odometer on the receipt and hit reset.
2.) Start with the FIRST fill up of the year.
3.) End with the LAST fill up of the year.
4.) Results will be tallied in Jan 2011 and winners announced Feb 1.
5.) If for some reason the car becomes Non op, (Totalled, sold, stolen, abducted by aliens) the data for the time that is recorded will be used to calculate estimated yearly total.
6.) Cheaters will be disqualified. These cars can be efficient, but I don't think they can go a thousand miles between fill ups. :p
============================

So, what do you guys think? Be honest. If anyone wants to participate, say so. At the beginning of the year I'll list everyone that's participating.

================================
I copied my info and posted here. As usual, the info is a bit askew, but hitting the space bar a few times straightens it out. this is how the results could be tallied. If cut short, it could be noted. :p
Example:
Time period Distance driven Volume filled Accumulated cost
Last 6 months 226.0 Miles 8.71 gallons $26.99
Last 12 months 226.0 Miles 8.71 gallons $26.99
All-time 226.0 Miles 8.71 gallons $26.99

Average numbers:
Time period Distance per fill-up Volume per fill-up Cost per fill-up
Last 6 months 226.0 Miles 8.71 gallons $26.99
Last 12 months 226.0 Miles 8.71 gallons $26.99
All-time 226.0 Miles 8.71 gallons $26.99

Mileage:
Time period Best mileage Average mileage Worst mileage
Last 6 months 25.95 MPG 25.95 MPG 25.95 MPG
Last 12 months 25.95 MPG 25.95 MPG 25.95 MPG
All-time 25.95 MPG 25.95 MPG 25.95 MPG

Guess no one wanted to play LOL? 2011 I wonder if anyone has beaten that since then.

I bet it would be more interesting to do worst MPG. That means you at least have fun in your car doing the challenge rather than hypermiling which just causes boredom and rage (somehow together)

If you tune your car to be lean at a steady state cruise, I have absolutely no doubt that you could achieve 30mpg or more on the highway. I put 30 dollars worth of gas into my car the other night. At $3.69 a gallon that netted me 8.13 gallons. I was trying to tune the maft for the first time, and my steady state cruise AFR was anywhere from 14.6 to 15.7. (The MAFT IS A PITA TO TUNE!!!) I drove 160 miles that night, and didn't even fall below the half tank mark. I have no idea what kind of gas mileage that actually is, but I'm pretty sure it was close to 30mpg.
