Well today in my green Eclipse with my laptop logging next to me I cracked a weld on my Magnus Street SMIM during a 3rd gear pull. It sucks but makes me smile at how ironic it is at the same time..too bad I didn't have a DANGER TO MANIFOLD warning programmed...:D:dsm:

did you check to see if your passenger side diamond plated floor is still bolted on... or did that crack off too LOL

if it did you have one of the best free dsm mods... I believe it was classified [by my brother] as the Flin-stones mod.
merging nostalgic cave-man technology with all the modern day conveniences of a 2g dsm to attain a truly unforgeable car.

remember that scene where Brian got away from the cops after dom got in the eclipse...
well the only reason he told him to get in the eclipse was simple

According to my, joking brother, it goes as follows:
Dominic was indeed actually using the Flin-stones mod to help speed brians dsm along, and in the process evade the cops... That for some reason knew his name just by seeing him, according to my brother if you look closely when the eclipse is flying in the air
[ to get away from the cops] you can imagine George Lucas style animated cg feet popping out going loony-tunes road runner style fast across the pavement LOL.

This cheese is what my brother had told me, oh man it made me laugh for a good long while.
she-sh what a well thought out joke I almost believed him about the feet popping out LOL.

but the weird thing is, upon watching this clip
[after hearing all my brothers cheese] dom actually looks like he is resting his feet on the floor board that is indeed supposed to be missing?
happy tuning and I hope you get that manifold fixed.

Man oh man that sucks. Maybe you can get it sent in for repair work by them. They say they stand by their products if it wasn't your fault and was because of a defect. Worth a try.

Remember the over 2 minute long race. ROFL Had to look it up on youtube.
At 1 minute 17 seconds into the race he's just at 125 mph. (I think my beater ford festiva was quicker with no NOS)
10 seconds later danger to manifold.
8 seconds later at 148 mph and the floorboard falls off.
And at the end of the long long race finish line and resulting manifold rupture Just 4 seconds over a 2 minute race. Yeah start to finish 2 minutes 4 seconds.
Pretty lame considering the 1/4 mile times and mph you see from the fast dsm's but still a cool car movie.

I bought the manifold used from a member on here so not even going to worry about bugging Magnus. I've got an appointment to get it welded up on Tuesday but since Brian could jump the car and run from the cops no problem I think I'll be ok until it gets fixed :p

Hopefully you have someone local that knows how to make the weld hold and look pretty. It would be a shame to ugly up the manifold. Do you have pics of the rupture?

Yeah keep on driving. Why would it hurt anything? His car ran fine with "fried piston rings" the mad scientist has to fix, ruptured manifold, and a missing floor board. Then again why the hell was the floor board cut out and replaced with a piece of diamond plate? Oh it's faster that way. See it falls off to lighten the car during the race. Pretty trick, slick, and teflon coated.
When it's fixed I sure hope it does better than 125 mph in over a minute.

I can grab I picture if you guys really want to see it. Thankfully it's just a crack in the middle of the weld closest to the head on Runner #1 so you really shouldn't even see the reweld. I've heard of these things having issues but who would have thought..guess I just had a "Buster" moment ROFL

I mean I was only doing a 3rd gear pull at wastegate pressure LOL..I expected it to have a little more balls then that. It is what is I guess

Went to Home Depot today and picked up some aluminum pieces to take to the welder tomorrow morning in the hopes of making a bracket to prevent this from happening again. I read a thread or two where people seemed to point at Magnus' plastic Heat Barrier Gasket as a possible cause, being that the plastic would provide for some flex in the flange. I'll post pictures after the bracket is fabbed and will update when the car is finished with the tune (should be around 25-28psi on my td06sl2 20g) as to how the intake is holding up at around the low 400awhp range.

I didn't buy it from them and respect them as a company too much to try and make it their problem. Well anyways, I took it to a welder who I've used before with good results (he does custom chassis work for bikes) and had him repair the crack, add another bead to the other 3 lower welds, and weld on the mounting plate for my bracket. I am more than impressed with his work and for a guy who only started welding a year ago they look almost identical to Magnus' work. Needless to say I think my issues are over with.
