Can I just get my ECU socketed and not buy DSMLINK so that a shop can dyno tune it for me? Id rather get my car up and running to its full potential right away rather then trying to tune it myself and have it running like crap for months on end because I no nothing about tuning. I would probably do more harm then good to the motor doing it myself.

You can get a 98/99/Evo black box ecu and use evoscan. A tuning shop can tune evoscan or LINK for you.

Another option is get a hold of My1gdsm. He does custom tuning and socketing. I have a good friend with a 1g and he sent his ecm to him and had it socketed and had a chip burned and installed in the ecm. Says the car hasn't ever ran better.

+1 for my1gdsm
Has worked with me through months just to get the tune right, solid tuner.

Another option would be to get DSMLINK and have someone remotely tune your car over email. I know that there are some that offer this service in the classifieds section.
I personally would suggest learning how to tune your car. There is a lot of good info on this site and the ECMTuning site that can help you out. I got DSMLINK last summer and knew nothing about tuning, now my buddies get me to help them out. It's a good skill to learn...

I have a shop in Bloomingdale,IL If you need help you can just contact me. I burn chips as well if your looking for a easy route.

I tried tuning a Trans Am that I used to own and it was not fun. So that's why I want to avoid tuning it myself. I want professional work done to get the most out of my car. I want to enjoy driving it right away instead of messing around with it for who knows how long just trying to get the tune right. Summers are short around here and you only have so much time to enjoy your car.

If I end up messing around with trying to tune this thing I will contact you.

X2 for remote tuning... It works quite well for the non savvy tuner and is an option for those wanting a tune from a reputable shop/tuner but is far away. We had an Evo tuned this way with aem ems2 and you basically make sure your car is up to par on maintenance, no boost leaks and give them a full mod list so they know what to tune for, then they get to business. Link also has forums and plenty of guys willing to help you tune if you choose to go that route, it's also pretty easy to learn/user friendly.

I am in the same boat. Just ordered my LINK yesterday and have never tuned a car in my life. Plan on many hours of research on the forums if you go the same route but should be well worth it in the end. If not you can always remote tune.

In case it's not clear from the other posts, you will need some change in software or additional hardware to tune the car. Socketing just prepares the ECU to receive that new software, be it DSMLink or a custom EPROM.

Devo2ning is just south of you in Lake Barrington and has years of DSM experience.
