Ok so i have searched on here and can find nothing exactly the same as my question. My clutch pedal is pretty much at the floor. I have the actuator switch backed out as far as it will go I know it's not the master cylinder or slave. do i need a set of new bushings, and weld my pedal, or do i need to get a whole new clutch pedal asembly?

How do you know its not your master or slave?

Have you looked for leaks? gone over the lines to make sure they aren't leaking? Tested to make sure the cylinders themselves aren't leaking internally and bypassing?

I'm in the same boat, except I've replaced everything short of the transmission.

I'm at a loss.

Have you tried adjusting the clutch pedal height?

Another idea is to check the fork or the release bearing.

Are you totally sure it's not the clutch slave/master cylinder? A faulty one DOES make the pedal stay to the floor.

Yeah im sure it is not the slave or master, i have had this issue since i bought the car. I have since changed the slave because it was leaking. The pedal engages at about 2 inches from the floorboard. I have the pedal adjustment all the way out as i stated before. I see that there is a bushing kit from sheptrannies and I know that you can get rebuilt clutch pedal assemblies but don't know which one i should try?

Man. You can check to see if the bushing is bad yourself. Go under the car and move the pedal. Does it catch and go down as aa unit right away, or is there a pause between when you push it down and it moves? If there is a pause, take out the pedal and weld it. If not, your problem lies elsewhere. What clutch are you using? If act 2100 or similar i have read that an extended slave cylinder rod is SOMETIMES required to disengage the clutch fully. Do not do this until it becomes a last rresort. Also, go down by the pedal and remove the rubber boot for the master cylinder. If there is ANY moisture, replace it. I also had your issue and thought, o its only 2 drops. I replaced the master and now can shift at 5600 with no problem. ( I don't take it higher than that so ya). Get back to us when you do all the things I mentioned then we can helhelp further

To me this still sounds like a bad master, mine was doing the same thing. How did you test the master to make sure there is no leaks internally or externally? Did you bleed the system properly and get all the air out?

In my experience it is always best to replace both if you replace one as well. And its not good to need the pedal adjustment all the way out either.

It sounds to me like a bad master or a not properly bled and adjusted system.

The pedal feels fine no slop or play at all, and i just have the stock clutch. Where is this rubber boot your talking about under the master cylinder under the hood or under the floor mat? Yeah the more i rule out possibilities i think you guys are right about the master. I'll let you know what i find. Thanks

After reading this debacle, it sounds to me as if the OP has not bothered to adjust[let alone inspect] the master cylinder rod. Backing out the clutch stop is more in the realm of fine tuning your already working hydraulics.

Let us know what you find, OP.

Follow your clutch pedal up to where it is pinned into a small rod going through the firewall. That connects to the master cylinder. If there is ANY fluid present, your master is bad.

And even if there isn't there is still the possibility of it leaking internally. My master on my 2G was about $27, dont know what it would be on your 1G but couldn't imagine it being much more if any. And like i said it's always best to replace them in pairs.

A little over a month ago i replaced my master due to it failing, 3 weeks later my slave failed, on one of the coldest nights we've had here recently. Cheap insurance :thumb:

Also double check that you have all the air out of the system as well. I know i sound like a broken record, but I've done the same things myself, so just trying to help out.

I just installed an oem master and slave cylinder on my 1g. Used a power bleeder to filled bleed the system. Now when I go to push the clutch it goes straight to the floor and doesnt return. Went to go look under the dash and moved the pedal to check for wear and the master cylinder rod won't go in, just down. Do I need to adjust it? Or is it possible my assembly is done for? With the old master it worked fine so I have my doubts of the assembly being the problem.

This video might help as far as clutch adjustment goes:

I'm dealing with the same thing right now. I had to move mine today for the first time in almost a year. Clutch feels like stepping on a wet sponge. Nothing at all until a half inch from the floor. I haven't dug into it much yet cause I'm on daddy duty now, but the first things I'm checking are fluid level, wet spots and pedal adjustment. I expect to find low or really bad fluid because of the lack of use.
