I'm leaking coolant behind my timing belt cover. I have a stuck thermostat which I will be fixing today. would that cause it to leak from it getting hot and have pressure and leaking out of the weep hole?

Could be your waterpump, could also be you neglecting to change out a stuck thermostat; that was prolly stuck closed causing you to overheat while at a stand still. If you want to sell that panda, you let me know :p

it's a rebuilt engine I put rtv in the thermostat by accident being stupid. the car has only been on for a few mins at a time trying to find the leak. my question is did I blow the water pump or if I fix the thermostat will it fix the leak?

Not lubing the o-ring that goes in the water pump. Not putting in the o-ring on the pipe, that belongs in the water pump. LOL Bad gasket. Could be a lot of things. Did you use RTV on the water pump gasket?

Fixing the thermostat needs to be done; so get it done. A leak is a leak, and it will continue to be there. There is no magical fairly that can wave her wand over the bad area to heal the unwanted hole. Ive tried.

does the long end if the thermostat go into the thermostat housing or into the pipe that goes to the radiator hose? I think I have it in backwards. I also thin.k I didn't tighten to pump bolt where yiu out the altornator backet on. ill check that.

Spring side of thermostat goes towards/into the block, thats what heats up and makes it open and flow through the upper hose and into the radiator. :)

I think there is room to make that mistake, but just wanted to clairify it for the OP.
