This is my first swing at making my very first build thread/journal. I wish that I would of started keeping tabs and pictures when I first bought this car for a correct build journal, however, I can only jump in head first then hope that it might resemble a thought out and thorough thread that everyone could enjoy. I will try to update this journal every time I replace, rebuild or maintain with this GVR4. Firstly, I have been a member since july 2013 when the previous owner (GSTwithPSI) suggested joining this site for information on 4g63. When I bought this vr4 it already was blessed with a great PO that done alot of great work that wasn't short of professional. It had fuel management, eprom(dsmlink v3), volt stabilizer, FMIC, b16g, evo 3 exhaust manifold, and tons of more add-ons.

I got some good miles out of the car before I started to get the itch to start molding this vr4 to what I wanted it to be. I started to stock pile parts like rebuilt a blue printed forged short block from ENZ5573. This block was bored .002 over, forged pistons/rods, ARP hardware, ACL bearings and it was perfectly built!

This is only the beginning of me putting everything down that I have done in the last year to 1813. I will continue to add the pictures and info until I have caught up to current date and work.

Before pulling the old motor I had to disconnect everything from the motor. I had a couple surprises, one being a broken thermostat housing. The bottom bolt was being used to hold up the 02 sensor and wide-band sensor wiring, so it might of been broken to hold this stuff up.

This is the old motor being pulled out.

Then I removed the head.

While putting the motor together I was able to get some new parts. I bought a new throttle body from throttlebody.com and I got it bored out to 65mm with the half shaft mod. This was my very 1st time dealing with steve from throttlebody.com and it was a very good experience. He was very informative about the parts and best mods dealing with my setup. I would definately deal with him again.

So, here is the old one broken down for the sensors and FIAV block off plate.

Looks like a big jump ahead on a nice build. Keep on goin.

I too like 6772 like the gvr4. I saw what I thought might be one at a gas station the other day. It was kind of beat down, black, peeled clear coat, some dents, etc. You know one of those cars that if the guy doesn't know what it is he might sell it cheap. :sneaky: Upon a closer look it was a v6. I got a weird look from the guy that owned it like "why is he checking out my beater car?" He understood when I said I was just looking to see if it was a gvr4.

For sure, a friends brother had one I worked on a few years ago and it was a blast. It had a 20G and some other mods, that thing would launch like now ones business. Embarrassed a few Camaro owners in our "4 door POS" it was a great time, miss that car... Idiot sold it for an Evo to be like all the cool kids... :banghead:

Anyway, great job and keep it up, we like pics!

Its always nice running into a 20+ year old car that hasnt been abused and a old women that owns it for the life of the car. (i am never that damn lucky)

Ouch, I would never get rid of this car now, specially for a evo. Its part of the family!

After I worked on the throttlebody and getting everything ready to install, I figured out i would do a BSE with the new block. So, I messaged BogusSVO that has a shop right down the street and asked if he had a extra he could sell. He was quick to respond with a "come on down and see what I got". I knew that meant he had one for me. I was able to get one for a steal. I wasnt too sure what exactly a BSE kit was, however, I found out it really wasnt much at all.

While I was there he asked me what I was going to do about the higher oil pressure and he suggested boring out the relief spring in the OFH.

I received more parts for the car.

I agree, I dont really understand the whole EVO thing personally, my buddy had one and it wasnt all that impressive... (No offense to anyone, just not my cup of tea)

Car is coming along well man, I need to port my OFH more after seeing yours...

I got 2 gauges running from the OFH and the turbo feed line from the OFH. I put a very small restrictor on the turbo feed and i see 20psi on turbo feed all the way too 60 psi on high boost. I was told from Jusmx that it should never go past 70 psi, so i am about to install a little smaller restrictor. I was also told from Klunder to change my feed line to the head. I wasnt too sure about that one, every where I read I was told to feed from OFH with restrictor and inline oil filter from forced performance.
