alright guys, I use to be a member a few years back, I had my grandma's 1g 91 awd turbo that I bought when I was 17. sadly last year I had to sell it due to a lay off at work. now I'm itching to get back into the dsm life been stuck on diesels for a while. So I would love to go back to a 91 1g like my old one but I cant find a good shell I like the 1g only due to the fact that its built tuff, but I love the look of the 2gb and I stumbled across this. http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/4497914979.html ive talked with the guy he said with no rims he would let it go at 800 bucks, but ive also had my eye on this nice 1g he keeps lowering the price its a rebuilt title but I don't really mind that part, http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/4494880847.html what do you guys think?

Well, depends how much of the harness is gone. If its just the engine harness, no big deal. If its the fuse box and ALL that other wiring then you will be looking for another 2gb gsx to harvest parts from. Just the longlbock and a manual awd trans is relatively cheap. As well as a harness and ecu if necessary. Its a beauty. Gotta say, i would probably take it. If he gutted the interior harness and everything then just be prepared for a massive amount of work.

Just noticed: 800???? Yea, id be all over that.

I was thinking of doing a 6bolt swap, im in there already. if not I will just get a 7bolt. I asked him about the harness he said its the engine harness he sent it to have it "tucked" and if/when he gets it back he will give it to me

I'd take that 1g. You can probably knock down 300 or 500 bucks. The interior doesn't look that bad either.

http://seattle.en.craigslist.org/oly/cto/4588704557.html update on the 1g, just went and looked at it today, its still up for sale started at 2500 now its at 1500. pictures make this car look way better then it is LOL. but let me know what you guys think. I may be over thinking this. I do want a project car but I was more looking for a nice interior. here is a list of things that all small things that add up im looking at the fact that It will be hard to replace because it has black interior but I do like that part here's a list of what I found wrong (seems like he is hiding some stuff by not telling out front)
driver door window switch is broke on where it is held onto the door
passenger door window rattle inside the door when it shuts
both windows slightly falls out of the track
all windows look like it needs new weather stripping
door weather stripping is falling off
small rattle when clutch is let out in 1st
1st AND 2nd gear grinds (I know common issue)
no headliner
car paint is half flat black and half shining
says there is a new clutch but is still "breaking in" so doesn't want to take off too hard so im guessing its not new.
speed-o is bouncing at low speed
says theres is new shocks/coils but we hit a bump and it bottomed out..
breaks look low
sun roof was removed he said it comes out like that my old 1g never had a sun roof so im not sure if that's true?
passenger door panel is loose I think he had the panels off and just half ass threw them back on to sell it.
it drives straight so im not sure why the reconstructed title.. I think it has something to do with the paint half/half might have been side swiped. im worried how he treated the car just from seeing how it looks from being treated, the BOV is aftermarket and the clip going to it is not on it to hold it down so im guessing he use to drive around with it off LOL. he said he did the timing belt himself and not the balance shaft belt. thoughts?

For 1500? Idk.... Your money. I would wait for something else to come up personally.

Dude...no. I am not one to intervene in sales since I would hate someone to do it to me as a seller, but this guy has been on FB talking about the car with others and has been called out for several issues including the OR reconstructed title. Last I knew he wasn't able or at least hadn't yet gotten a WA title and Oregon is known for being a "grey" state for wrecked cars. They are very loose about passing them and then people will use that salvage title to get another state to pass it even when they wouldn't before. Not sure what was wrong with it but from all of the things you just listed your gut should already be sending you running! If you are looking for a running driving car for $1500 you're gonna have your work cut out for you with a DSM and the 1g is over 20 at this point and comes with all of the old age symptoms and problems. You really should work on finding one in the best shape possible as far as body/suspension goes and then build/fix a drivetrain for it, in my opinion the only way to trust one of these AT ALL is to take it to the ground and build it back up. Non running 1g's are like $750!

What is your total budget and goal? Do you just want a car to drive around that reminds you of your old one or do you want to have some fun with the platform and modify it a bit?

See, I wouldnt even worry so much about "rebuilt" or whatever they call a prior salvage. It takes a good scratch to total a car that old, i mean think about just the cost of paint alone would cause insurance to total it. But the myriad of issues that thing has.... boy oh boy. Just nickel and dime things. Then the big stuff like the timing assembly and if he did it right or reused ancient parts. The leak from "somewhere" etc etc etc. All the things you listed would make me pass on that car unless I got it for 500 bucks and my intentions were to part it out.

I jsut put 50k, trouble free miles, on an 06 lincoln ls with a missouri prior salvage. Missouri is NOTORIOUS for "cleaning titles". I carfaxed it and verified it was indeed just hail damage. Very very light at that. So im not one to be spooked by a prior salvage but i am one to be spooked by a 20 something yr old car with a lot of small problems and potentially some very big ones. The tranny grinds too... I mean damn. 1500 is way way too high.

im not looking for a prefect car for 1500 in any way, the most important is interior, I want a nice tsi/gsx with a good interior. I plan on pulling the motor and doing a build, new transmission I can do my own body repair so dents that are not too crazy will be alright with me. I've always loved dsm's if I didn't get laid off I would still have my old one. I plan on doing from the ground up build. I don't plan on dd or even driving at all when I first buy the car. will be a weekend car when I am done. I will just keep waiting till I see a deal pop up. time to play the waiting game..

$1500 isn't bad for a car that has a bad title and needs trans and suspension work, has an Ebay clutch, and has interior electrical stuff that doesn't work? A decent condition running AWD can be found under $2k pretty often up here at least. For example there is a white GSX with nice wheels that just had a bunch of work done and it runs/drives solid for the same $1500 right now on the same craigslist, I'll try to find the link to it. I think the tough part is that the OP is way at the north end of the state (if he's still in Bham) and its a trek to get down 3hrs each time to look at a potential car. As was mentioned, its your money but I wouldn't pay more than about $6-700 for that black laser cause its gonna cost at least another $1500 to get it back to normal and by that time you could have bought a nice one!

Here you go this guy was on FB as well and seemed a lot more up front about the work that has been done and what probs there were. You'll have to talk to him more about it but they want it gone and just dropped it even more to $1200! Its closer to you by an hour, has wayyyy more nice parts and worst case scenario you could part it for well more than you pay! And its a 91 like you wanted!!!
