im new to dsm i have a stock 1999 gst

I was looking at either a 20g turbo or evo3 16g turbo

My main question is doi need to build up the motor and tranny to be able to run the 20g at full power.

Any help would be great. I have already baught a 3inch exhaust with downpipe that is coming in soon.
 
Well that ain't too bad.. But I don't know which version to go with man. Like I'm def. a newbie at all this. I just wan something simple, and honestly.. I don't wanna run over 9-10psi. Because I know that's the safe range. What all did you do/go with? I see you got the same car. I just wanna get this ecu thing done, so I can tune it. Tune it to at least run 10psi, and not jerk/wanna shut down.

I just need someone to help me out. Like to tell me what I need to order/buy. I don't want the most expensive thing on the market. I only wanna push low boost. between 9-10psi. Maybe later 11-12psi. Never no more than all that.

Their reply:

Let's start with some basics here. Do you have our tuning/logging
package (ECMLink) installed on this car? If not, then there's really
not much I can do at this point short of selling an ECMLink package.

Although, honestly, even with an ECMLink package installed, this doesn't
sound like a problem with ECMLink. It sound like either a boost leak or
an ignition problem perhaps. It's really hard to know for sure.

You have any idea what I should do now? :/ Plus after saying what the tuning place said?

Never mind that young padowon...The numbers on the front of the case tells me it is a 94-95 2g ecu.

Now open it up and lets see if it's eprom or not.


I asked that tuning place, and told them the problem I was having.. He just asked if I had the program installed, and if not. Nothing much he can say/do. But he also said. "If you did have this program, it doesn't seem it's gonna fix your problem. Sounds like a "Boost leak/ or a ignition problem" My guess. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
 
All Aftermarket Items: 16g Turbo. 16g J-Pipe. 16g Turbine Headers. Intake Cone. Inter Cooler. 255 Fuel Pump. BOV / Recirculated. BPR6EKN NKG Spark Plugs, Set at .28. Fuel Pressure Regulator. Fuel Pressure Gauge Attached To Fuel Filter, Set at 43psi. Catback

Issue! Car lags until I hit around 35-40mph, and then I can hear the turbo spool/whistle,and then the car seems to run decently fine. But once I hit 95-100mph, it'll shake, like fuel cut? "Not like hitting a brick wall though" :ohdamn:

Also sometimes when putting it into gear/reverse it will, or wants to stall out. "but fires right back up, if stalls"

Have you checked for boost leaks? You are also still on stock injectors and have no way to tune so you are very likely to hit fuel cut if you turn the boost up to high.

You need a way to tune if you want a bigger then stock turbo.... your melting your pistons as we speak.

WHY DIDNT YOU GET V3 LITE!!?! No, but seriously your going to melt your pistons, if you haven't already damaged them your lucky, do a compression test and boost leak test, What are you using as a wastegate/bov/boost controller?
 
the best thing for you to do is stop driving the car(before you blow the motor to pieces), put down any wrench you my have in your hand and step away from the vehicle!!! you have gone about the this all wrong. I would strongly suggest putting the car back stock, and then I would learn a little bit more about building vehicles before you do anything else. no way to tune with a 16g and stock injectors, no wideband etc.. that's just asking for trouble.. not trying to be an a**hole dude, really just trying help you!!
 
Been running a big 20g for 8 years with no problems.
255, 600's, boosting between 18-25psi, safc, wideband, geddy profec b. 457 to the wheels on 93 @ 22psi

You have bigger injectors, wide band and a way to tune, the op is on stock injectors and no tune.
 
I appreciate the help/advice DSM-Freak. As I mentioned I'm def. new at this, and I know I ****ed up! I should've learned more etc., before going this route. But I do not drive the car, because how it's running. "Lol, always have that fear of blowing it to pieces" Got the engine rebuilt before I put on all these mods" I do have the "DSM Link, the chip is actually in my ECU now" Just don't know how to tune it etc., and as you just said I got stock injectors. I was told as long as I ran decent boost, like 10-15psi with these mods, without tuning etc. it would be fine. I'm not looking to go crazy with it, but I guess I was told wrong. That's the only reason I took a little mod route. d***. >:

1G Eclipse.. I have no idea what I'm doing dude, LOL. That's why I'm here! I was told so much sh*t, now I'm in this situation. I'm just using wastegate, with greddy bov, which is recirculated. I don't own a boost controller though. I was just going for decent boost, nothing crazy.. I was told didn't have to do all this tuning etc., if I wasn't going to push it. I do have DSM Link, just don't know what I'm doing.. I'll have to check for boost leaks

Synthetec: If I just want to run normal boost like 12-15psi. What all do I have to do now? Or what else do I have to buy? Like I stated I don't want to go all crazy etc. Just list of what I need, would be helpful. Thanks. I know, I will get to boost leak test, but need to know other info as well,thanks
 
I think at this point you should look on your regional forum for someone. Offer some money for some assistance with diagnosing and/or tuning your car with a basic tune. I feel the best advice that was offered is on the first page of this thread.
 
the biggest thing I could tell you is to learn how to use your Link. what version do you have? you will be able to learn a lot be just playing around with it before you actually try and tune anything. then I would do a good once over of everything done to the car, and make shure everything is installed right. then do a boost leak test. I would try to find someone close to you that could help you learn in person. I used to live down in Norfolk, id help if I was still there man..
