To start all I have a 91 island that I just finished building. I bought an h x 14 that was freshly rebuild from someone on the form. My oil set up consist of a -6 off of the oil filter housing and then a -10 drain. The car also has no balance shafts so relitivly high oil psi.
Now to start all when I first start the car in the morning and run it for about the next 15 minutes of driving its smokes not too bad but just a little bit. After that it will go away for the day unless it sets for an extended period of time. And if I really get on it it doesn't really smoke that bad neither. So I took the intercooler pipe off of the turbo and I found oil residue he pretty decent amount.
So do you think my oil feed setup is wrong or did I get a crappy rebuild?

You should really read up on the holset sticky thread..
Your feed line should be a -4an with a restrictor especially since you did a BSE.

-6AN feed line is to big. You need a -4AN and depending on oil pressure a restrictor, without balance shafts I'm sure you need one. -10AN drain line may be to small. You should search the forums there is a ton of information on Holset's and how you should run the oil lines.

Alright sounds good. Am gonna change it because I know they are wrong but. Why? The drain makes sense, it is to small I know that but the feed I'm not really sure why. I know everyone says u need 4 but why? I'm just wondering if that is my issue

Restrictor not necessary if a large drain is installed -12. Yes to -4

Always check your feed with a gauge to make sure you are within spec do you dont kill your turbo.

If you have a large feed and an under sized drain you are over flooding the turbo and you will kill the seals.

The -4 is recommended because it helps keep pressure in spec (acts as a restrictor)

If you really want to know why read the hundreds of pages on holsets. Why question whats proven to work on our platform.

Regardless you need to make sure your pressure to the turbo feed is with in spec.

Read all of this

6AN is how these turbos are fed on their OEM applications. Trouble there is they also have ideal oil pressure, and a drain tube the size of a fire hose.

Your 10AN drain is cutting the turbo's ability to drain in half, so you're likely going to have oil running out of both sides of the turbo if you feed unrestricted with a 6AN line.

Alright urbansmoker and jusmx141 thankyou for the useful information.
I just hope that's my issue and I didn't kill it yet... With 400 miles :/ I'll have to locate some -12 the only thing is I don't want to drop the pan :( I guess it has to be done though.

I think I'm also going to look into porting the oil filter housing. So I can get the oil pressure set right

Really I thought stock would be smaller then that? I'll have to look at an old one
