Alright so I found a really good deal on a MHI big 16g turbo and a tubular EM. I am going to buy it tomorrow. I realize I cannot just replace my t25 and stock EM and go. So I have been doing a bit a research and this my conclusion. I am going to need/want to get:

Install kit, like this Forced Performance one: Forced Performance Turbochargers: FP 16G Install Kit for 2G DSM

FMIC, like this punishment racing:
PUNISHMENT RACING FMIC KIT: 1995-99 ECLIPSE/TALON ****ON SALE**** - Punishment Racing

Fuel pump: Either Evo 9 fuel pump or a walbro 255 (along with a 10 awg rewire)

I could use some help on deciding which injectors I need :hmm:

I read on a couple articles that boost creep was an issue on theses turbos. Some people used larger flappers and other welded the flapper shut... I would like to use an internal wastergate. I don't plan on boosting much over 25psi in the future. So I need help here too!

Is there any other tips or items I need to be thinking about getting to being able to use my 16g anyitme soon??? Thanks for any and all help!

So I got the MHI Big 16g and a tubular exhaust manifold. The flapper appears to be welded shut... I cant open it no matter what. So what is the advantage to this? Also the exhaust manifold that was being used with it does not have a flange for (or a) external wastegate... How is this supposed to work? And yes I'd love to follow your footsteps. I'm new to all this and am egger to learn more!

Also I got the turbo, EM, some replacement plastics, an LED center taillight and a motorized drivers seat all for $270, is that a good deal or what?!

This is a picture of how I received it

Are u shure its welded shut, because I see a wastage actuator and there not easy to move. Un bolt it and see if the flapper moves or just take off the pin that holds it to the arm.

Cxracing makes a full kit for it. Yea it's cheap but it works. Everything you need to make a 16g coversion

This is a very good kit, just be aware that you could be piece it together yourself very easily. A little forum searching goes a long way.

Absolutely, I would highly suggest the Punishment kit. I ran their kit for years on a constantly evolving setup and was never disappointed.

Fuel pump: Either Evo 9 fuel pump or a walbro 255 (along with a 10 awg rewire)
Get it over with, go 255 and rewire it. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator should be added at the same time.

This depends on your goals, budget, tuning system, fuel type, etc. I'd personally suggest going with 1000cc at least and tuning with DSMLink. Chances are you'll need more fuel down the road. But 650cc would be enough for a 16g on pump gas.

But I heard people experience "Boost creep" with these turbos, and that it has something to do with the internal wastegate. Whats a cure for that?
These turbos creep due to poor wastegate design and high flow turbine. When running low boost (usually 10psi) the exhaust passes the wastegate and continues to spin the turbine. There are multiple modifications you can do to solve boost creep, many of which have been beaten to death on these forums. However, IMO the best solution is to run more boost (if you can support it of course). Above 20-25psi you'll have problems losing boost through the RPM range!

If you want to run low boost 10-15 psi port the wastgate hole open to about 1/8 less then the flapper size, just so the wg flapper covers the wg hole and then some. High boost 17+ don't port it.

If you would do a cat back or turbo back exhaust and want to run low boost you will half to port it or it will creep up around 18psi because the loss of back pressure.

Hope this helps.

Yes this is all helpful! Well my ultimate goal would be around 350whp... Price isn't much of a concern. It will just take longer... Id like to get the best stuff for my needs. I don't need to go all balls out for a 350whp setup... But id like to know nothing is going to deteriorate over time...and hold its value. I was thinking the Evo pump because it flows slightly less and is much quieter I'm sure. I think our stock pump is a bit loud at times when im sitting at a stop light, windows up and no music. I was thinking either 650cc or 1000cc...Can anyone recommend a brand? I heard FIC injectors are nice and relatively cheap too.

I had 340-360hp est thru think with my small 16g setup. It was tuned by me using ecmlink, had a rewired walbro 255 (you think the stock pump is loud LOL), b&m old school afpr, fic 850's on 100 oct gas, my own 2.5 custom ic piping using a nice vibriant fmic and hks ssqv, 1g n/t TB with port matched intake, and custom holset wg actuator to hold rock solid boost. My timing and boost had a sick curve and I was seeing steady 20psi and 20-21* timing up top and maxing the small 16g @ 37lb/min. Was also runing arp's and bc272's all on a 240k motor that had the original head gasket still and was never even out of the engine bay LOL! This setup was good for low 12's and I'm sure alittle more seat time I could have seen high 11's, it was definetly making the power for it! Maintenance is key to running these cars hard! Make sure your timing belt and all components are up to date! Upgrade the motor mounts is a huge help. Also all prothane bushings all around and a proper coilover or suspension setup with a proper alignment is a super must!! Also make sure you pick a proper feed for oil for the turbo! If not running off the head and your using the ofh. Make sure you can check line pressure and make the proper adjustments or you risk pushing oil past the turbine seals!
