I dont even know where to begin. I just finished putting my head back together and bern driving my car for about 20 dats. Car ran fine, spool'd fine, no issues. Monday, went to take off down the road and my car will not boost at all... boost gauge levels out at -0+ and wont build boost. Unhooked the wastegate (internal) and wont build boost. Tighten my MBC all the way, wont build boost. Did a BLT, holds 40 psi great and was tested with tester on my turbo inlet and throttle open. Biss was leaking before but fixed it. Im at my wits end and on the verge of selling the car. It runs and drives GREAT if I dont try to go into boost. A little while ago, I took it for one more drive down my road and I got to 5 psi with the WG unhooked and it sounded like my car has a open dump pipe.... the sound is that loud... is this signs of a bad turbo? I really dont know

Also want to note that when the car finally built up the 5psi... I was at 6800 rpms.

I have a feeling the turbo is done for but its not smoking at all. I do however have a good amount of fresh oil in my upper I/C piping. So is it safe to assume I need a new turbo?

Im missing one bolt on for the mani to turbo mounting. But.... car is completely quiet at idle. No exhaust leak sounds. I can try some season tomorrow to confirm.... but with that bolt missing.... but the rest impacted down, can that actually leak enough to cause this? Im not trying to sound stupid. Im tired of just throw in money at it and nothing is helping.

Did you check for exhaust leaks before the turbo?

You nailed it.... I dont even know how to make sense of this gasket splitting in half like this. But I'm getting a new gasket later today... :banghead:

and turbo isn't blown at all. I'll still look into the oil in the intake but I think I need to install a catch can

Check the in/out play and side play if you have the intake tube off just to check bad turbo off the list since it is a ebay model. See how easy or hard it spins. A little side play, ok. In/out play not so good and oil in the intercooler piping isn't a nice thing to find. Just trying to help.

Oh you're good. Ther is zero in and out play and some side to side but doesn't touch the housing. Oil I think is possibly from the valve cover as I have the rubble tube running from it to the intake with no catch can in the middle... here is the odd part.... its only in my upper pipe... my core and other pipes are dry.... not even a hint of oil and I have my core hanging up to try and drain any oil out.... this car hates me.

Dont give up, there are alot of people here that are willing to help diagnose it. They have all always been helpful for me. Hang in there, things could be worse. Glad the turbo is good, so check that off the list.

Yes! You are exactly right. But im getting away from the ebay crap hopefully soon. My buddy has a T28 less than 8weeks on a rebuild and he blew his motor. Im going to buy that off of home since I found out that, even though its slightly smaller than my ebay turbo, it out flows it by a long shot. And its real, LOL.

Probably spool better. I was at a point that I wanted to sell my car too, as the PO had alot, well most everything, in place but every nut and bolt was loose. Ended up loosing the inducer nut on the turbo that was on it, lots of oil leaks and on and on and on but now that I have fixed all his goof ups (and he was an Army mechanic supposably, poor troops...) and finally have MOST of the stuff taken care of and money gallore, it should be a fun reliable car. My original turbo came from ebay and it was luckily a decent one but Justin went thru it and upgraded it to a 20G and it was a good unit until this last weekend when the ebay wastegate acuator came apart and....no boost so he is fixing me up again. So we all have our little problems and thats why this is a good site to ask for help. Best of the day to you sir!!! :hellyeah:

Thank you. I have a spare turbo I need to send to him to make a 20g out of. All I hear of is how great his work is. Good luck as well. Hopefully this is the last issue for a little while.

Justin is very dependable and very good with his turbo rebuilds so yes I recommend him. He is actually altering a Holset actuator but had to order it because I wanted a new one, even tho he had a used one. If there is any other help I or anyone else can be, just post it up. I am new but far from new to mechanics, just dsm's with forced induction but its coming to me very fast. Nothing different than farm equipment with turbo's on them although I can't ever remember trying to alter farm stuff, like a MBC or better intercooler etc LOL. In the cab of a tractor....a MBC. The thought cracks me up. Good luck!!! Hope it all gets going good real soon for you. Also....love the color of your car!!!

Good stuff. Iam currently selling a evo 3 16g i got off a buddy of mine. No in and out play. I got it off him and never did anything with it. The wastegate is cut off so the flapper just flaps but I'll sell an external wastegate with it as well if youd like. Just weld the flapper shut.

I actually got my car work in a few minutes ago. The turbo was blown.... screaming like crazy. So I replaced it with another spare I had literally lying around and my car runs perfectly... but I need some help if you dont mind....

I dont understand an fittings and how to know what to order... the oem oil feed banjo bolt does not do the new turbo at all. It was one size too big. I want to get an an fitting (90°) to replace what I have now but I dont know what size would fit an m10×1.5 I believe it the size/pitch. Do you know?

I had to buy a brake line banjo bolt... its a m10×1.5 banjo. I thing o found the adapters on ebay to fit a line kit from extreme psi. And I have no clue what turbo it on it... the cover is blank but has dual compressor fins and looks like a 16g... but it bigger than the ebay one o just pulled off... a lot bigger.

Why not? He had crank walk. Does that matter with the turbo? And that was the bolt that i originally had with the ebay turbo that was just on there.... this one is smaller for some reason. But has dual propellers like the 16g does and also the part the j-pipe bolts to.

But the T28 is a bad idea even if the motor only walked, not starved of oil?

even though its slightly smaller than my ebay turbo, it out flows it by a long shot. And its real, LOL.

How can you be sure without knowing the ebay turbo model? ;) The T28 flows about the same as an MHI Small 16g.

Sounds like your typical eBay 20g that uses a 16g style compressor housing. It's near impossible to tell without pics though.

Yea... it was a 20g but I toasted that thing LOL. Brock the propeller shaft in half...literally. ebay strikes again.
