I have a 93 talon with a 92 motor and the car won't move when I put it in gear

No noises nothing just won't move when it's in gear just did an engine swap went to pull it out of my garage and it moved for Alittle but didn't make any weird noises tho

So after the swap, did you drive it around and it drove for a little while and it just stopped? Or you drove it, turned it off, came out to drive it and then it wouldn't move? Or never moved in the first place after the swap? and the tranny worked previously before the swap?

sounds like you didnt install the Torque Converter correctly. How did you align the torque converter to the transmission prior to installing onto the motor? What type of A/T fluid did you use?

There's grooves that it slides into so you know it's locked all the way in I just put it in and hooked up the engine with the torque converter bolts

I backed out of the garage and then it wouldn't go anymore. Tranny worked perfectly fine before swap

Make sure all your electrical plugs are 100% seated, also try dielectric grease in each plug. I find this helps a lot for making contact especially with older and dirter harnesses.

Did you put the shift linkage on correctly to the trans? Can you move through all positions without and tension or grinding? Will the car sit in park or can you still move it? Sure an axel didnt pop out a little bit?

I would just jack it up, go through all the connectors and hoses, make sure you have no leaks, and make sure the fluid is at the right level. What fluid did you replace it with?

Are you saying you put the Torque Converter onto the motor first? If so, you ###### crushed the front transmission pump.

No it was in the transmission and then I connected the motor to it

did you check all electrical connections? Shifter linkage connection? When you put the shifter into P, or R, or D, do you feel or hear the trans engaging at all or does it not do anything? Is your fluid filled correctly?

The torque converter can slide out of position. You can try unbolting the TC from the flex-plate and spinning it while pressing on it. you are probably not all the way seated. You should feel it move back a little. Also there are two plugs that are interchangeable on the transmission harness. They might be swapped. If that doesn't work you will need to unbolt the tranny and lean it back towards the passenger side and spin the TC until it seats.

Did you checked the fluid in neutral, engine warmed up and running ?

Hoping this thread would hold a jewel or two as my auto is SLIPPING BAD. Just picked car up for a song, 91 tsi with less than 80k miles on her. Amazing condition for most part but last owner was a barbarian, the car has definitely spent some time airborne, and I doubt the hood was ever raised til I got the car. Runs great but transission slips in all gears (still drivable) and she pukes coolant out from behind the timing belt cover? Least I think that's where it originates

When the car is running, check to see if coolant is coming out of the weep hole on the water pump. If it is, then it needs to be replaced. Also check the water pipe where it goes into the water pump. There is a black O Ring that goes around the water pipe before its installed that will tend to leak and could leak onto the timing cover. Also the water pump gasket itself could be leaking which is causing coolant to get into the timing area.

As for the tranny, it could be a multitude of things. Low fluid, torque converter going out, transmission going out, etc.. I would start with some basic diagnositcs on the transmission by making sure all the electrical plugs are connected, fluid is at the right level and NOT black or brown, shift linkage is attached, etc...

If your water pump is leaking, I would highly recommend you replace the timing belt and all components while its apart. Doesnt seem like the previous owner did any work on the engine. Below are links on how to take apart, install, and what parts you should get to do the timing belt. Hope this helps!

Are you POSITIVE that your torque converter is properly indexed, all 3 steps? You should be able to unbolt the converter from the flexplate and be able to spin it, it should not be tight until you bolt it up to the flexplate. Approximately 9/16" in from transmission bellhousing lip to torque converter mounting pad before installation. You might not be ingaged in the front pump yet and I hope that is not the problem because it very well might have done more damage posts 5 and 8 are talking about.
