I wound up going with a junkyard engine. $1100 with turbo and intake, 120K.
So, to make a long story short, I'm building a 96 7 bolt for my 98 GST auto shell. Thanks to some fellow members I'll soon have all the parts I need except for rebuilding the engine.
This is going to be a stock rebuild. I plan on picking up a 14B or similar turbo to use with this. I'm going to drive it on this block until I can set aside the funds for a real build.
I'm buying this from DSM Graveyard: EDIT: NOT buying ANYTHING from DSM Graveyard. Looking for a new source now. Horrified I even thought of giving them business.
Mitsubishi OEM Oil Pump - 4G63 7 Bolt
Mitsubishi OEM Timing Belt Kit w/o Shafts - 7 Bolt 4g63 (96-99)
Mitsubishi OEM Water Pump – 2G DSM 4G63
Mitsubishi OEM Water Pump Bolt Kit - 2G 4g63
DSM Graveyards Balance Shaft Eliminator Kit - 4G63 - DSM/Evo
ACL Bearings - 7 Bolt 4g63 - (Rods)
ACL Bearings - 7 Bolt 4g63 - (Flange Mains - 95/96)
I'm buying this from Extreme PSI:
OEM Engine Overhaul Complete Block/Head Gasket Set : Mitsubishi Eclipse 2G 7 Bolt
OEM Valve Cover "Half-Moon" Seal: Mitsubishi Eclipse 90-99
OEM Throttle Body to Intake Manifold Gasket : Mitsubishi Eclipse 90-99
Fuel Injector O-Ring Seal Replacement Set
OEM Piston Ring Set (complete) Standard Bore : Mitsubishi Eclipse 95-99
I read that there's a place to get 3G lifters cheap, anybody know where that is?
So is there anything that appears to be missing from this list for a basic rebuild? I'm sure I've overlooked some stuff, maybe there are better alternatives for certain parts, please let me know! Critique my plan, constructively please! I'll start a build journal once I start ordering stuff.
EDIT: I'm at about 1300 so far. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to just have it rebuilt for me by a builder. Any insight on this is appreciated, including suggested builders, prices of different builders, and more. This is for a stock rebuild.
