I am pulling the engine on my 91 awd talon next Saturday. It will be my second time pulling the engine in a 1g and my friend is a seasoned veteran doing it. Im curious what the fastest time someone has pulled the engine in a 1g is. Im not trying to be cocky in anyway im just curious for the fun of it. It is a manual trans. Please give me some truthful feedback on what your best time is if you've clocked yourself before.:)

I helped pull my step bros 2ga 6bolt in about 5hrs maybe closer to 6. He is a good tech though. My buddy took 2 days to get his 1g 6bolt out. He took off the head and everything off separately for some reason. Funny funny haha to him.

I'm around the same at 5-6 hours doing it solo. Will definitely be able to do it quicker on the new racecar simply due to how much stuff has been removed.

Never timed myself but I'm sure I've done it within an hour or two. Like Donnie said, it comes apart quick when you know the routine and have the right tools.

But it also makes a huge difference when you have a clean, minimized setup. There's a lot of unnecessary crap in the stock engine bay....

+1 to this

Like on 2gs the passenger side motor mount bolt comes out towards the firewall. Having to remove the batter box and charcoal canister. Put the bolt in the right way and cut out all that other bullshit.

Having the right tools and setup makes a huge difference. I think my worst experience was helping a friend put a civic engine in with a swingset, rope and some broom handles. Never again....

I"ve done mine of putting the tranny and engine together and dropping it in then yank it back out and apart about three times in a week. Keep in mind I worked that week full hours, had a couple beers, and a couple times just said screw it I'll work on it later.

So now my honest "clock time" Three beers. Sierra nevada torpedo. (adjust time for alcohol content)

1.5 hours by myself w/out power tools. What do all normally start taking apart first? I always get em up on stands and start with the suspension(axles). They can be time consuming at times.

Took all wires/cables off
Removed upper engine mount
Removed transmission mount
Placed jack under the cross-member (bar that goes from front to back and holds up engine in the middle, not sure if this term is correct) and unbolted it
Lowered engine, transmission, and the cross-member together

Did not have a way to remove half shafts, so just wiggled everything until they came out. Did not seem to have any damage done to them, was really careful about over-twisting them. Also this was a FWD, so did not have to remove driveshaft or transfer case. Just noticed that OP has an AWD, so might take a bit longer. No power tools either, by the way.
