Hello, I have a 2g engine installed and having issues with the wiring harness. As of right now Im confused on if the engine should have two plugs for the cam angle sensor and where the crank angle sensor should plug in. when I disassembled the old block it didnt have a crank angle sensor, but it was a 7 bolt. I guess what Im getting at is if a 2g should have a cam position sensor and plug into two plugs from the harness, and if so where does the crank angle sensor plug into. It looks like the gray plug going to the cam angle sensor has two wires cut from it on eiter side of the middle wire.

Any input will be good

95-96 had the cam and crank sensor plug right next to eachother by the intake cam gear.. the 97-99 had the crank still there but cam was moved to the back of the intake cam.. if it had no crank sensor in it then it wasnt a 2g engine that was in there. one of them should atleast be a triangle looking plug

The cam sensor is located on the end of the cam and the wiring that coming form the cam sensor has two connections and one is triangle, and would fit the crank angle sensor. Is it ok to leave the other connector from the cas open if I use the female end for the crank angle sensor or will things need to be rewired...

ive never used a 1g cam sensor but thats what it sounds like you have.. i cant help u there. i do know there is a write up at maybe RRE? that shows you how to do it. but even then i thought the 1g sensor had 1 connector. i know for a fact the 2gb ones have 1 connector.. maybe they added the 2g connectors for a plug and plag deal with the 2g harness?

Not necessarily. A 2G engine can use a 1G crank sensor just as easily as a 1G engine. The accessories cannot tell you what the engine actually is.

I'll agree, it sounds like a 1G sensor. The 1G sensor itself has one connector but when put in a 2G it will typically be split to two. All 4G63 2Gs have two connectors; one for the crank and one for the cam sensor. Thus, splitting the 1G sensor wires into two separate connectors to match the 2G harness is a common thing to do.

The important thing is that both the cam and crank signals are there. This link has a couple diagrams that will allow this to work, though it isn't the only way: http://magnusmotorsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/1gina2g.pdf

Ok, If i wanted to return the car to stock, can I get a 2g camshaft position sensor and wire it in the the existing connector in the harness, and return any pins to normal. Or can the car run using the crank sensor if i plug it into the crank side of the harness and the 1g cam into the other side of the harness. the camshaft sensor has one wire going to the senor and its the wire going to the ecu. All other wires on that side of the connection were cut (the ground and power).

Ok i found the right cam angle sensor for the 1996 year. does anyone know off the top of their head where it mounts up?

Thank

Orville

You most certainly could do this.

You can use the 1G cam sensor with the 2G crank sensor but both sensors will need a power and a ground. The one wire going to the camshaft sensor will not suffice in this case.

The 1995 and 1996 model years had a cam angle sensor mounted behind the intake cam gear as seen here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-electrical-wiring/289870-installing-1g-cas-2g.html.
