Alright so I replaced my alternator on the gsx today with a 90amp galant I found at ten local pull it yard. Mine was broken so I figured this will do for now. In the future when I get around to cleaning the engine bay up and throwing some real time into cleanliness I will by a new one. Alright into my question.

I removed the power steering pump and set it to the side. At that time I also loosened the alternator bracket that appears to bolt on to the water pump.
This bolt is very long as it cannot come out unless you remove one of the pulleys.

This bolt had an a lot of oil on it and I think some oil was even oozing out of it hole. Any clarification on this?

I know I have oil leaks and I have fixed most of them. Valve cover, oil pan, exhaust. I need to do the cam seals next and maybe a main seal along with all of the shaft seals. Could the cam seals be tricking me into thinking something's wrong here?

Thanks.

Unless the 2G is different. (you should be using the manual) your totally off base not even unbolting the right stuff for swapping alt.
Btw My galant 90 amp came with a lifetime warrenty from autozone for like 100$ total

That's nice to hear. I "loosened" the bracket I did not unbolt it. I loosened the bracket because on 2g cars it's hard enough to get my hands down there to unbolt the necessary bolts. I put loosened in brackets just in case you missed it this time.

Urban: some gallants do have the right pig tail and some of them don't. I'm not sure what carts between them but at my local yard I can find same year gallants with either the 4 pin connector that out car uses or a two pin connector.

Either way does anyone have an answer to my question?

The alternator very easily comes out the bottom with almost no effort! There really only 4 bolts for the alt, 1 main long bolt on bottom, 1 for the tensioner and 1 to lock the tensioner arm and one for the bracket. You didn't have to take the power steering off at all bro! And we need some pics of what bolt you removed and from where! Or else we are just as lost as you are bro! Pull your top timing cover and inspect cam seals its pretty easy, only a couple bolts to have piece of mind! And I think its 95-96 galants that have the correct plug if I'm remembering correctly.

+1 this is what I thought.

Also the oil filter housing is right there next to the bottom alternator bolt. It could be soaked from a leak there or maybe when you changed the oil it somehow got all over I don't know. You could have accidentally removed a ofh bolt! Which would explain the oil, but I sure hope you didn't!

Allow me to make a few things clear. Please read the following and understand everything I say, please. I know how to remove an alternator from my car. I've done it many times with the benefit of having the car on stands it makes it easy for me to reach every bolt. Removing the alternator from the car while it is under it's own weight is difficult for me because of some undetermined reason maybe my arms are two big maybe I'm just doing it wrong? Either way I make due, I learned that by loosening the bracket that holds the tensioning bolt to the alternator allowed me to more easily get my hands around the alternator and lift it from the top. With that being said I would really appreciate a little grain of respect. I understand I'm posting this in the newbie section but it's only because 1) I have too 2) it really belongs here 3) maybe it can help someone googling.

In 2g turbo eclipses there is an upper alternator bracket that bolts through the water pump. It's only held on by a single 12mm headed bolt. I cannot take that bolt out because the alternator pulley is preventing me from doing that so ima unable to take a picture of it. As a result of me wanting to deliver I found a decent picture of what I'm talking about. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cyl...y-ability-6-bolt-rebuild-3.html#post151349935 it's the second picture in this post. (Thanks blcknspo0ln) that's the bolt I am talking about. It had an excessive amount of oil on it and coming out of its hole when I loosened it. Could someone shed some light on this please.

That bolt is 8x65mm. Note: Don't tighten more than 17 ft.lbs or you will strip the threads in the engine (personel experience)! I don't remember any oil coming out when I replaced my pump (but that was so many years ago I may not remember it so someone else may have to chime in).

Here's another idea: I also had such a tight fit getting it out the bottom (it will barely, but you have to go through so many contortions, rotations, etc, etc, etc ....), that I just said screw this and removed the radiator. Came out easy as pie then. Plus like you I got so tired of holding it up there for 25 minutes trying every which way I could think of that I just couldn't hold it anymore (of course I'm over 60 and it's heavy).
