All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

I thought I had this figured out but apparently not. I'm using a 1g TS which has all the ports shown below. I have the 2g CTS plug connected to the top port with the white connector. I have the thermo valves connected. The 1g CTS un-used, and the temp gauge connected.

Link shows that I'm ~203 to 206 when engine is fully warm. With knowing all that I don't necessarily think my CTS setup is wrong or the reason why I have a cold start issue. Honestly it has a hard start regardless of engine temp. I need to apply gas upon start up to keep the car running which takes about a good 10 seconds. Idle still isn't ideal. I plan on swapping/testing out my ICS since I cannot get ICSposition anywhere near the recommended 30.

My FIAV untouched and coolant lines still hooked up to my TB. Anything I may be overlooking?

Okay well after a very busy week I finally got a chance to work on the car and I ran a compression test. The cylinders came back 140-140-155-150 which is well within factory range I would think so that should not be why its not starting. I am almost beyond stumped, its getting spark, fuel and has good compression. I just cannot figure out why it wont start

there are no codes i have already checked

Well I just got it running. I swapped out the spark plugs just too see what would happen and sure enough it started up.

So i just got done putting a new starter and intake manifold on my 96 eagle talon tsi. Starter turns just car wont fire. Gets spark gets fuel. Idk whats going on. Any ideas?

the car turns over at same speed. it gives little backfire and trys to start. we try to bump start it and it didnt work. The car ran fine before i took the old IM off. It was cracked and broke at some points. The IM is the same exact thing. I maybe wondering if i missed a plug somewhere or possible vacuum lines are off still. When i took all the spark plugs out and turned the crank with a socket it is extremely hard to turn now. Hope i dont have an internal issue...if it is what could it be???

I had this same problem. Check to make sure your plugs are right and make sure your coil is right. I put 1 on 3 and 3 on one. Same thing. Swapped them and fired up never better. Other than that..... crank by hand and if it's really bad you might be able to hear it (internal). I hope not. Best luck to you bud.

the coil has on it 4,1,2,3 as the firing order. is this correct?

Went to get my car out of storage finally after 5+ months. Started it up fine and let it warm up for a while. Had to turn it off to run to the store. Came back, added a little coolant and BAM, nothing. Car doesn't crank at all. When I put the key to the on position, only the fuel pump runs and all accessories. Kinda stumped on what to look at. Battery is brand new and grounded well. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
