I hear there's a T28, and a big T28...

Just like the title says where can I find either of them?

Found a Big Garret T28 for about 1000.00 give or take that's a turbo id love to put my money on...

But is there such thing as a T28? Mitsubishi turbo from a certain cr that's supposedly a bolt on to our 4g63?

Like can I find them in cars? Junk yards? Or are these turbo no factory made with vehicles and are just a replacement turbos like the FP big T28?

Don't take this the wrong way or as if I'm being a dick, but something is wrong if it's that sluggish off the line. Every Auto AWD I've had has had a very nice "snap" to it even on a TD06H 20G. 8.5:1 compression, coupled with the 2G small intake ports and higher velocity IM makes throttle response a whole lot better and low to mid-range power. What you're describing sounds like what you'd get with a restalled torque converter, which is a huge reason why I HATE driving autos with restalled converters on the street/as a daily. Because their response sucks. A tight, stock converter isn't like that. Something I recommend to you is kiggly modding the shifter, as that gives you full line pressure and full user control over your shifts. It extends the life of your transmission, and it makes the experience a WHOLE lot more fun. Full line pressure also helps with the "snap" that you're missing. Don't write off the auto completely just yet when you've not really done anything to it to make it more fun. I would challenge anyone that says driving an auto is boring, to drive a turbo AWD Auto DSM that has the kiggly shifter mod, and that uses a Hurst Promatic style slap-shifter. It's all the fun of banging 5-speed gears with none of the heavy clutch pedals and sea of endless transmission issues that comes with a manual. :)

I loved my 1G E316G Auto GSX more than my 20G 5-speed GSX, ESPECIALLY on public streets. The properly actuated Cyclone coupled with the 16G and kiggly shifter mod made that car an absolute pleasure to drive in, and out, of traffic. Throttle response was great, torque was great thanks to the Cyclone, spool up was decreased noticeably as well, and if I pinned the gas in the lower gear it would light up all four wheels. I adored it. Funnest street car I've ever had.

Nuff said ! You shouldnt have to powerbrake to get a good street drive out of a 16g, ive done it before on a 2g dsm and it was a fun DD.
For the OP if you are restricted by local laws then Justins idea would be a nice stock appearing power sleeper. We only tossed out the idea of a t-28 in favor of a 16g for example due to reliability and cost measure. By all means you have choices now, justin always has frankenstein turbo combo ideas:cool:

No offense at all. Your post was well thought out and detailed and based on more experience with that setup. I appreciate the info, I'm always open to learning more about these cars! :thumb:

Just read you have an automatic. Let me give you some advice from experience: The automatic sucks in day to day driving with a larger turbo. I have a brand new FP28 with all supporting mods: intercooler, 780CC injectors, DSMLink, AFPR, 3" Thermal Exhaust, etc... I have a conservative tune at 254AWHP and to be honest, I HATE the way it drives. The auto shifts at the wrong times. It is still a dog off the line driving like a normal person. The only way to get it to move out is to power brake it to 3000 RPM then let off the brakes. It just isn't fun most of the time. At least to me. If the stars align and it shifts when it is supposed to, then it does move pretty well though.

I'm seriously thinking of ripping out my Auto drivetrain, selling it to a drag racer and buying a complete 5speed AWD drivetrain. Auto may be great for drag racing, but I honestly can't stand it at all. It is worse now than when I had the T25. That is my .02 cents and I'm somewhat of a noob so take it with a grain of salt.

Yeaaahhhhh,At least im not the first one to point out somethings not right with something your using.

Cracked +2 I sense no shifting mods at all either.Either way trav_dsm should not be hating it so much if everything seemed proper to an auto guy.

And besides your cyclone I dont see anymore reason trav would be complaining about lag.The e3 is slightly more laggy and theres plenty of autos having great fun as a dd or etc. Umm can we take this to a different thread or pms please before we throw this all off topic.

I did drive a t28 powered 98 auto once..It did seem laggy, but there was also nothing done besides that,Maybe just a catback, still stock boost even. So theres room there for improvement, but some kind of tune, maybe an ecu swap, and a shift box if he wants to retain every stock part so it dont throw off inspection.

To the op,justin and everybody else.Would a mhi turbo even be "stock appearing" in california? Yes a t28 for a 2g is the obvious bastard "stock appearing" turbo Which is what I thought the op wanted in the first place..

Bud

I was wondering the same thing myself. There is no way every cop you run across is going to know the difference between a t25 and other mhi based turbo under the hood, right? How would they know?

See, I've been pulled over once because of my front mount being sprayed painted black, they checked under the hood, just to find my Evo 3 16g with the Jpipe kit from cxracing"chrome" ...they automatically knew it wasn't meant for the cars 4g63 especially it being a 95.

Then the second time...I ran a big 16g after highway patrol telling me to close my hood due to police department would love to write me up for any mods in the car. I didn't listen(foolish) ...here comes a dick police officer who knew that the turbo was not suppose to be there no matter how bad I bitched he claimed I swapped my engine to a 93 eclipse(6 bolt) ...he then threaten to impound my car, I asked to speak to his unit supervisor , he quickly wrote me a fix it ticket...

In other words the t28 can be easily mistaken for a stock t25 even for inspection...visual i don't know about smog.

I can't believe the cops know that much about individual cars there. Are they like taught a class in modifying during there training? Im willing to bet 90 percent of the cops here have no idea what a turbo is or the difference between them. They could care less what you have under the hood here except for like Nitrious. You can have the bottle but it can't be hooked up to the line on the road.

Some police officers have knowledge some look for anything shiny...

I do honestly believe the J pipe threw the officers off...braided wiring...and maybe no heat shield along with a tubular manifold(once)

Here's a joke... When I went to the ref to get my car inspected for the "illegal smog device"(big 16) I showed up with not a dam thing changed but added heat shield and side mount and guess what?...I passed

Brother...I'm realm California...laws are so tight up the ass ...you heard of DUI checkpoints....

Well we have Smog checkpoints and they will automatically suspend your registration of your car fails smog!

Thats insane, I guess with that many people living out there its needed. That really has to limit you so much on your choices for mods. I see why you want the t28. Do they go nuts over having all the factory vacuum lines and BCS,FPS ect hooked up? Im sure you have to have all the EGR stuff hooked up too?

mine passes smog looks stock

Thats a Very, very nice example.Damm,I only see one shiny pipe to the bov flange, almost not even noticable..How did you hide the oil cooler and all that?

Intake is black,Nice move there.Besides the bov,Your doing a great job at stock appearing.
The radiator probably doesnt matter does it?

Spray painted intercooler.:nono:

A 93 car is Gonna be a 7 bolt 94% of the time, Just so you know.

But painting the j pipe to the front mount is not a bad idea for visual inspection..I'm assuming you have the heat sheilds installed as well.Otherwise We might all be wasting our time,if your not gonna "appear stock" to the police or inspection people.

Rad and fmic are legal the oil cooler is where the drivers sidefoglight would be...passes smog no problem in California
I need to paint the last pipe n bov next
