Anyone know what would work best for high boost 600 plus hp build. I have msd dis2 and have my choice to run msd 8224 coils and taylor thunder volt 50 wires or coil on plug 300m coils or bike coils. I am running dsmlink so no control over dwell time so stuck w waste spark. Worried cop setup may not have enough time to recharge. Will be turning 10k rpm. Any suggestions or proof which is better. I know if I rum aem cop would b better. But staying with linkv3 full speed density. Thanks so much

I can tell you from personal experience 6-700hp might be about the limit of those 300m coils. I have them on my car and @34psi I made 701 and spark was perfect. Once I pushed them up to the 40psi range they would blow out. Bear in mind this is on a waste spark system with a dynatek though. I did on my previous build have 4 separate msd coils sequential with msd wires on a msd box and I would run 50+ psi on alcohol and a 250 shot and never have spark blow out. Did have some trouble keeping the drivetrain together though but that's another story.

Looking to go 40 psi plus. Will the twin tower 8224 coils support it on waste spark or should I go get 4 blaster coils and run them waste spark

The 8224 coils won't be hot enough. I have ran the blaster coils at 50psi but this was a sequential setup. I'm not 100% sure they would have enough charge time if ran waste spark but the will be much better than the 8224s.

***FWIW I would just use the Msd with the stock coilpack and some nice Msd wires and see were that gets you before dropping 200+ dollars on some coils your not sure will work yet.

I ran the 8224 coils with dis2 on my last car few years backvolts. only to 38lbs of boost on 60-1 didnt have issues. I know shep ran this setup back in the day if you look at old pics of his car. Msd doesnt make a 1g set of wires only short 2g. I already have the 8224 coils but they can go back to summit. looking at all msd coils they are almost all rated at 40000 volts. Not sure if any way to run sequential ignition with link or not. Would bike coils do better? Not seeing how stock coil could do worse or close to 8224. I just want to make sure I have best ignition setup I can. Thanks for info and any help

Those aren't model specific wires in the pic. I had to put those wires together myself with a kit they sell

Are you saying that even though you have a CDI, you are concerned about control over dwell time, and coil "charge" time? If so, then dwell is not an issue with CDI, and neither is coil charge time. The CDI does all the charging inside the CDI, not the coil. And any coil dwell settings aren't relevant.

So cop setup and twin towers should work same? I always thought cop were only good on a sequential setup so they can have time to recharge. Thanks for all the help

what about the 8232 coils?

That doesn't mean the coils will work the same. All that I said is the charging is done inside the CDI. In a standard ignition, the charging is done in the coils, and the dwell time that most people think of, is relevant. In a CDI, all the energy is stored into a capacitor(s) in the CDI box, and then released in a brief pulse into the ignition coils. The CDI regulates the energy storage, so the ECU dwell time is a meaningless setting for CDIs.

But just because it has the same energy pulse going into it, it doesn't mean the cop and twin towers will work the same. I've heard of/seen bike COP coils hating CDIs over long term use because of the heat problems, and higher voltage than they are used to. But I see lots of people running AEM coils.

The twin tower coils should do a little better, run cooler, etc. I'd think they might have a slightly longer spark too. But I've not done much in the way of comparing the 2 coils you are asking about. So I can't really give you the answer to your question, I just wanted to point out the dwell issues you were concerned about aren't a problem.
